Afghan collapse

I have no opinion on the matter. I guess Joe Biden's words best summarises the situation. 'If the Afghanistan's own armed forces do not want to fight to defend it, why should other countries?' I summarised his words but you get the gist.

I have not been in an armed conflict like Afghanistan thus I cannot know for sure what it is like. But from an outsider's perspective, if I may, if they are all so desperate and spend so much energy in leaving the country, why don't they come together to use that despair and energy to rebuild the nation? They go through such hardship to reach often Europe... if they spend even half the energy on rebuilding, wouldn't they achieve a descent government? Any nations on Earth especially modern form of government went through a horrible civil war to get there. From that perspective, I cannot really tell vast majority of evacuees are economic migrants or really in danger.

Of course, Afghan interpreters have been targeted by Taliban, the same goes for the Iraqi interpreters. Those who are in grave danger as such have to take protective measures; be it leaving the country or going into hiding. But if they stay in the country in hiding, don't they become the force for bring about changes? You cannot force them to do that. But in old times when people didn't have the means to leave the nation and live a lot more comfortably abroad, they had no other choices but to change the regime. Maybe that desperation is what moved the needle.

You've got to wonder why quite literally because after too many interventions there is no fruit to harvest.

Well, anyway it's Tuesday. Tomorrow, dentist.
