Predator Preserve

Despite director Nimród Antal and producer Robert Rodriguez expressing interest, a sequel to this film never materialized. However, Dark Horse stepped in to provide a more than worthy follow-up with David Lapham, Allan Jefferson, Michelle Madsen, Nate Piekos, David Rivera and Jordi Tarragona's Predators: Preserve The Game in 2010, and it's the best Predator sequel we'll never get to see on-screen.

Predators ended after Royce and Isabelle overcome their sinister colleagues before murdering the Super Predator. Sadly, rather than get a ride back to Earth, the Yautja ships dropped crates down, hinting they were sending humans or other species on the preserve.

Preserve The Game picks up from there with Royce and Isabelle becoming expert killers, as well as lovers. However, it goes into the human condition more as Royce starts to think he's becoming crazy. Meanwhile, Isabelle doesn't want to go back as she killed so many women and kids, so she thinks this is their paradise. It's a great character study as they're deluding themselves, not unlike Noland, who tried to betray the group after finding them in the movie. He started to accept that humanity was the true monster, and the ghost of his words still haunts Royce, who wonders if they're due a similar fate.

Eventually, they come around when a smaller Predator leaves weapons for Royce, who's become an unsung champion on the planet. Interestingly, it's been calibrated for humans so clearly, Royce has been accepted. He uses it to then hunt a four-armed Super Predator down, which really adds a nice dynamic to the franchise. Seeing him using their weapons as a gift rather than by having the government repurpose tech sticks to the art of war and how enemies respect each other, calling back to the respect a Predator showed Danny Glover's Michael Harrigan in Predator 2. It's given, not taken, and this is less complicated because we know the smaller Predators need Royce to survive.

He and Alice end up fighting the giant by a waterfall, gunning it down together, but again, there's a lot more emotion involved. They could abandon each other but the story shifts from survival of the fittest and only the strong to a more sentimental tale. They love each other and either they die here together or get off the rock and back home as a couple. It's a better approach than humans using the Predator gauntlet to come seeking them in space, which would have taken away from the grimy, natural feel of the franchise. This way, Preserve The Game produces the best of both worlds and draws a common ground between both species. It's far less convoluted than most of the Predator sequels and ultimately shows that the aliens do respect humans who are up to the challenge of the hunt.

I'm a former Chemical Engineer. It was boring so I decided to write about things I love. On the geek side of things, I write about comics, cartoons, video games, television, movies and basically, all things nerdy. I also write about music in terms of punk, indie, hardcore and emo because well, they rock! If you're bored by now, then you also don't want to hear that I write for ESPN on the PR side of things. And yes, I've written sports for them too! Not bad for someone from the Caribbean, eh? To top all this off, I've scribed short films and documentaries, conceptualizing stories and scripts from a human interest and social justice perspective. Business-wise, I make big cheddar (not really) as a copywriter and digital strategist working with some of the top brands in the Latin America region. In closing, let me remind you that the geek shall inherit the Earth. Oh, FYI, I'd love to write the Gargoyles movie for Disney. YOLO. That said, I'm on Twitter @RenaldoMatadeen. So holler.

Predators: Preserve the Game Is the Best Predator Sequel We NEVER Got On Screen

The comic book sequel to 2010's Predators, Preserve The Game, is the best sequel in the iconic sci-fi series we'll never see on the big screen.
Predator Preserve
The 2010 movie Predators didn't really catch fire at the box office, but it's still more or less considered a worthwhile entry into the storied sci-fi franchise. It went back to basics, this time dropping Royce (Adrien Brody) and a bunch of sleazy soldiers onto a mysterious alien planet to fight off hunters. It flipped the script on the Yautja coming to Earth by sending humans to a Predator-controlled world and ended with Royce and Isabelle (Alice Braga) ready to face more enemies.
