今回は、Ryley Tate Wilson の "A Girl" をご紹介したいと思います！この曲は、ある女の子との出会いから破局までを描いた曲です。

この歌の作詞も自ら行った Ryley Tate は、アラバマ出身の16歳で米国の "The Voice" という歌声のオーディション番組でセミファイナリストに選ばれました。この番組の審査員の一人であった元 One Direction の Niall Horan は、彼を "future of our music industry (音楽業界の将来を担っている)" と評しました。

この歌は、各ヴァースの最初と最後の歌詞を "I met a girl and I met XXX" に統一しているところが特徴で、XXXの部分が天使→親友→台風→嘘つきと変化していき、二人の関係性の変化が表現されています。心を奪われた「彼女」に対し、振り回されたり嘘をつかれても憎めず、自分を犠牲にした主人公の悲しみや切なさが表現された一曲です。
