静岡市葵区大岩にある古刹、臨済寺の一般公開。徳川家康公が少年時代、学んだ寺院として有名です。一般公開日の10月15日、午前中は混んでいました。雲水さん（お坊さん）によると午後の方が例年空いているとのこと。来年の「どうする家康」の影響もあり、参拝者が増えているようです。

Visiting Rinzaiji Temple on October 15 Part1

10月15日に臨済寺を訪れる　パート１

October 15 was one of the open houses of Rinzaiji Temple, which are only two days a year in spring and autumn.

10月15日は臨済寺の公開日で、春と秋、一年に2日しかない内の一日です。

Zen training for Buddhist monks is held in this temple.

このお寺ではお坊さんたちの禅の修行が行われます。

So, the temple is not usually open to the public.

ですから普段は一般公開されていません。

On this day, praying for the deity called ‘Marishiten’ is held, and Lord Tokugawa Ieyasu deeply worshipped the deity.

この日は「摩利支天」と呼ばれる神様の祈祷が行われます。そして徳川家康公はこの神様を深く崇拝していました。

The curtain hanging on the gate was the one that bore the Tokugawa family’s crest, called ‘Mitsuba-Aoi’.

門に掲げられた幕には「三つ葉葵」と呼ばれる徳川家の家紋があります。

The Rinzaiji Temple is closely related to the Tokugawa family.

臨済寺は徳川家と密接に関係しています。

Lord Tokugawa Ieyasu received his education there from Taigen Sessai, the temple's chief priest.

徳川家康公はこの寺の住職であった、太原雪斎からこの寺で教えを受けました。

The Tokugawa family well supported this temple, so there are many valuable items donated by the shoguns and other famous vassals.

徳川家はこの寺を良く保護しました。ですから将軍や有名な臣下たちが寄付した価値あるものが数多くあります。

For example, the painting by the second shogun, Lord Hidetada, the handwritten waka poem written by the third shogun, Lord Iemitsu, and the waka poem by the fourth shogun, Lord Ietsuna, were displayed.

たとえば、二代将軍秀忠公が描かれた絵、三代将軍家光公が書かれた和歌、五代将軍綱吉公による和歌が展示されていました。

The largest and most outstanding handwriting was also displayed.

一番大きく目立つ書も展示されています。

It was a masterpiece by Yamaoka Tesshu, who is famous as the great vassal at the end of the Edo period.

山岡鉄舟による書です。幕末の偉大な家臣として有名です。

He is also well-known as a skillful calligrapher.

彼は腕のある書家としても良く知られています。

The temple was home to these valuable masterworks, like a museum on this day.

お寺がこの日はまるで美術館の様で、これら価値ある傑作を見ることが出来ました。
