この記事に書いたように、リーダーズ・ダイジェストという雑誌を自宅のＰＣで時々読んでいます。

１９５２年２月にエリザベス２世が、母や祖母と一緒に、父親のジョージ６世の葬儀に参列している写真が、この雑誌に載っていました。

祖母の名前はメアリー・オブ・テック、母親はエリザベス・アンジェラ・マーガレット・ボーズ＝ライアンです。

今年９月に９６歳で亡くなった、エリザベス２世は、エリザベス・アレクサンドラ・メアリーという名前であり、区別するために母親はエリザベス王太后と呼ばれました。

母娘で同じ「エリザベス」というのは不思議に思うのですが、欧米では父と息子が同じ名前で、息子の名前の後ろにジュニアを付けることもあるので、そういうことに違和感がないのかもしれません。

私は競馬場に行ったことはありませんが、エリザベス女王杯と呼ばれるレースの名前は知っています。

イギリスの王室は競馬とかかわりが深く、ウィキペディアによると、特にエリザベス２世は、競馬の熱心なパトロンでした。女王陛下の馬たちは、何度も優勝し、1954年と1957年にはイギリスのリーディングオーナー（所有馬の獲得賞金額首位）となったそうです。

The whereabouts of the Queen Elizabeth Cup

As I wrote in this article, I sometimes read a magazine called Reader's Digest on my PC at home.

A photograph of Elizabeth II with her mother and her grandmother at the funeral of her father, King George VI, appeared in the magazine.

Her grandmother's name is Mary of Teck and her mother is Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon.

Elizabeth II, who died in September this year at the age of 96, was named Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, and her mother was called HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother to distinguish her.

It's strange that her mother and daughter have the same name "Elizabeth". In Europe and the United States, a son may have the same name as his father, with the suffix "junior" added to the name. It may not seem out of place.

I have never been to a racetrack, but I know the name of a race called the Queen Elizabeth Cup.

The British royal family is deeply involved in horse racing, and according to Wikipedia, Queen Elizabeth II in particular was an avid patron of the sport. Her Majesty's horses won many times and were Britain's leading owners in 1954 and 1957.
