今でも、企業でこういう作業をする人が必要なのだなあ、と思う。

事務機器業界全体では、２００７年をピークにして、今後、複写機や複合機の売り上げは伸びないと予想されている。これらの機器を必要とする既存の職場には、すでに行き渡っているのだろう。

かなりの量の情報伝達が、ファックスから電子メールに置き換わったと思うが、両方に共通して発生するトラブルが、送り先間違いだ。

ファックスでの誤送信件数の最近の調査は見当たらなかったが、このように、今でも誤送信は起きている。

インターネットが普及するよりも前、コンピュータから電話回線で、相当数の取引先のファックスに発注データを送っていた大手小売業があった。送信先の電話番号の登録を間違えたことによる、関係のない一般家庭への誤送信がしばしば起きた。

まだ一般家庭の多くはファックス機能のついた電話機を持っていない時代でもあったので、誤送信された家の人が受話器をとると、「ピーピーガーガー」という音が聞こえて困ったということだ。ある家では、NTTからファックス機を借りて、出力した結果から、発信先をつきとめて抗議した。

また、ファックスは言葉としての使い方も要注意である。
私が働いていた頃、「ファックスします」と書くべきところ、「ス」を書き忘れた電子メールが届いたことがあった。

Faxes are still used in many workplaces.

In the office equipment industry as a whole, sales of copiers and multifunction devices are expected to peak in 2007 and will not continue to grow. It is likely that existing workplaces that require these devices already have them.

I believe that a considerable amount of information transmission has been replaced by e-mail instead of fax, but a common problem that occurs with both is sending the wrong address.

According to a survey of about 1,000 Japanese workers, 25.9% of people mistakenly sent an e-mail to someone other than the person they intended to send it to.

Although I couldn't find any recent research on the number of faxes sent by mistake, misdirected faxes like this still happen.

Before the advent of the Internet, there were major retailers that sent order data from their computers to the fax machines of a large number of their customers over telephone lines. Faxes were often sent by mistake to unrelated households due to incorrectly registering the recipient's phone number.

This was a time when many households did not yet have telephones with fax functions, so when the person who received the mistaken message picked up the phone, they would hear a beeping sound, causing trouble. One family borrowed a fax machine from NTT and used the output to determine the destination of the call and protest.

Also, you should be careful when using fax as a word in Japanese.
