Excitement arose as two girls entered the meeting room, smiling and friendly.
The interview was held three weeks ago; when it was still my first week in Mongolia. New and a little nervous, I was surprised I felt assured and relaxed in their warming greets.

New employees in Unimedia Solutions LLC in Mongolia, Jargalmaa and Battuul, the two started out on test team as temporary members before they got ready for actual system developing.
The interview started with a quick presentation about their team. Quality Assurance their key purpose, the team carries out testings of developed systems in three separate levels: unit test, integration test, and acceptance test.

With pictures on slides, Jargalmaa and Battuul introduced other four members of the team; small laughs sparking as they explained their alluring hobbies.
“We connect and work together well,” happily, Jargalmaa pronounced the word, “connect.”

Although IT fields are mostly consisted with boys, Battuul waved away my concern, with a very simple and a very true answer: “I don’t face much problems. I feel completely fine working with boys.”
Surrounded mostly by boys in university classes, Jargalmaa and Battuul don’t care about genders anymore. Being able to do what they want, they were perfectly fine and excited for their time at work.

Because they’re developers and not professional testers, in their team as a whole, they carry out “benkyokai,” once a week, to learn and discuss testing techniques.
Being able to point out any parts of the system to be fixed, Jargalmaa enjoyed her work to be “independent.” However, as an IT developer, she sees that more testing and less developing is also causing her some disadvantage.

Still, “no difficulties,” Battuul affirmed.
“There are a lot of responsibilities,” Jargalmaa said, “but responsibilities give us experiences and more chance to study and learn.”
“We become experts.” To Jargalmaa’s words, they both grinned happily, leaving the interview with a nice touch in the end.

ユニメディアのモンゴル現地法人。Unimedia Solutions LLC インタビュー。社内のミーティングルームを借り、渡された名前とチーム概要を眺めていた。
どんな人だろう。ワクワクしていた。

扉が開き、明るく、うきうきとした声と共に、若い女性社員2人が顔を覗かせた。JargalmaaさんとBattuulさん。

日本でも、モンゴルでも、どうしてもIT業界は男性ばかり。
大学のクラスでも、女性は片手で数えられるほどしかいなかった。
それでも「もう、そんなの気にしない。」逆にそっちの方が楽なのだと、Battuulさん笑いながら話してくれた。

2人は大学を卒業したばかりの新人のIT開発者。開発チームに携わる前段階としてTest Team に配属されてると言う。
専門はプログラミング。だから当然、テスティング部門では分からないこと、知らない分野は多くある。
毎週行われるミーティングと勉強会。そこで、丁寧にテスティングの進捗を確認し、知識や技術を共有している。

Test Teamの主な目的は Quality Assurance：unit test、integration test、acceptance testの3つ。

そこで、開発チームのシステムを確認し、報告している。
テスティングを行うのは人間の脳が最も活発に機能している午前中のみ。午後は実際の開発を行なっている。
自分が思う通りに行動できる。「自由。」Jargalmaaさん、そう話してくれた。
しかし、「早く開発チームに行きたい。」プログラマーとして、開発に関わりたい、そい言う気持ちは、強くどこかに握っていた。

それでも、テスティングチームであることは決して苦ではない。
他4人のメンバーを紹介する2人。彼らのちょっと変わった趣味についてクスクス笑い、チームメンバーについて話す様子はとても生き生きしていた。
「みんな何でも教えてくれるんだ。」Battuulさん、嬉しそうに話してくれた。

責任は大きい。ミスなんて絶対にできない。でも、「責任があるからこそ、頑張れる。責任があるからこそ、学んでいる。成長している。」
「エキスパートになれちゃうよ。」Jargalmaaさんのその言葉に、インタビューは暖かく締め括られた。
