Takramでは現在、WFH（Work From Home）をメインに働いています。Takramメンバーがどのように自身の働き方や暮らしをデザインしているのかをのぞいてみましょう。

At Takram, we are currently working primarily from remote. In this series, we take a look at how Takram's members are designing their life and work style.

慶應義塾大学環境情報学部在学中より、サウンドデザイン / サウンドインタフェースの研究開発を行う。卒業後、IMG SRCに参加し、エンジニアとしてインスタレーション / モバイルアプリケーションの開発に携わる。デザイン / エンジニアリング、そして、ソフトウェア / ハードウェアという領域に捉われない活動に共感し、2015年にTakramに参加。

He began researching and developing sound design and sound interfaces while studying at Keio University(Arts in Environment and Information Studies). After graduation, he joined IMG SRC, where he worked as an engineer developing installations and mobile applications. In 2015, he joined Takram because he felt a sense of empathy for activities that are not bound by the realms of design/engineering and software/hardware.

How do you design your working style?

今は8割から9割、自宅で仕事をしています。ハードウェア関連のプロジェクトがあると必要に応じて月に数回オフィスに行っています。元々、好きなことを仕事にしていることもあり、切り替えがないことはあまり苦ではありませんが、改めて全員がリモートワークになって様々な効率化が進んだように感じています。例えば会議はZoomの方が情報共有がスムーズだし、仮に出席できなくても後から録画を見直すこともできます。今まで会議室でおこなっていたアイデア出しもMiroなどを代用することで議事録を書く手間が省けます。とはいえ、同僚との会話が少なくなったり、同じで場所で仕事をつづけていると息がつまることもあるのでそういった時は近所を散歩します。

I work from home 80% to 90% of the time now. If there is a hardware-related project, I go to the office a few times a month as needed. I don't mind not having to switch workspace because I like what I do, but once again, I feel all kinds of positive changes that remote work has brought to us. For example, information sharing in meetings is smoother via Zoom, and even if I can't attend a meeting, I can review the recording later. We can also use Miro to discuss ideas, and save the time of writing the minutes. However, there are also unfortunate aspects. For example, having fewer opportunities to talk with colleagues is a prime example of a negative change.Whenever I get stuck working alone, I take a walk around my neighborhood to refresh myself.

What is your particular work space?

元々オフィスの近くに住んでいましたが、妻もリモートワークになったことで、なかなか今までと同じ環境のままパフォーマンスを維持することが難しいなと感じ、リモートワークへ移行して、比較的早い時期に広めの住環境を求めて引っ越しをしました。

僕の役割の一つとして、サウンドデザイナーとして音を通じた体験をデザインすることが多いので、仕事部屋には音響機材が多く置かれています。あとはやはり長時間の作業を自宅で行うのでTakramのLife Designという制度を使ってアーロンチェアを購入しました。

Originally, I lived near the office, but early on in my transition to remote work I moved to a larger house than I had before. Because my wife and I have both shifted to remote work, I felt it was difficult to maintain my performance in the same environment as before.

As a sound designer, one of my roles is to design experiences through sound, so I have a lot of audio equipment in my workroom. I also spend a lot of time working at home, so I purchased an Aeron chair through Takram's Life Design program.

What is a book you would recommend?

Takramでは、メンバーの学びを全面的にバックアップするために「Book Purchase」という制度があり、自由に書籍を購入することができます。他のメンバーがどんな本を買っているのかをSlackチャンネルで全員が見ることができ、その時の興味関心を垣間見ることができます。

At Takram, we have a "Book Purchase" system to fully support the learning of our members, allowing them to freely purchase books. All members can see what books other members are buying on our Slack channel and get a glimpse of their interests at the time.

僕はデザインエンジニア、サウンドデザインを主なスキルとしてTakramで仕事をしているので、プログラミングや音楽関連のリファレンスになる本を読むことが多いですね。音のなんでも小事典」は音の性質や音色と心理学など多角的に学べる内容になっているので、古い本ですが今でもたまに読み返します。

I work at Takram with design engineering and sound design as my main skills, so I often read books that serve as references for programming and music-related topics. Although It's a bit of an old book, I still go back to ”Oto no Nandemo Shoujiten" from time to time because of its multifaceted content, such as the nature of sound, timbre and psychology.

サウンドデザインという言葉はあまり馴染みがない人もいると思いますが、例えばアプリのインタラクションのフィードバック音やモビリティの駆動音など、実は日常生活の中の様々な体験に音は大きな影響を与えていると思っています。また、サウンドそのものをデザインするだけでなく、音を作るツール（≒楽器）をつくることにも興味があります。あらゆるアウトプットは、使っているツールに依存している気がしていて、ツールを多様化することによって、アウトプットの可能性が広がる気がしているからです。

Some people may not be familiar with the term "sound design," but I believe that sound actually has a great impact on various experiences in our daily lives, such as the feedback sounds of app interactions and the driving sounds of mobility. In addition to designing sound itself, I am also interested in creating tools (≒ instruments) that create sound. I feel that every output is dependent on the tools we use, and by diversifying our tools, we can expand the possibilities of our output.

What do you like about Takram?

プロジェクトや組織など様々な観点で柔軟なところが好きです。
例えばプロジェクトでは、プロジェクト自体の種類の幅の広さ同様に、期待される自分の役割もその都度異なります。僕が以前いた会社にはプロジェクトマネジメントを専任で担うメンバーがいましたが、Takramには現在、専任のロールの人はいないので、デザイナーとしての役割以外にもプロジェクト進行の役割も期待されます。自分がメインでプロジェクト進行を行うこともあれば、他のメンバーがメインで行うこともあり、プロジェクトに合わせて柔軟に対応していく必要があります。Takramの持つこういった特性によって、自分のスキルの拡張を実感することが増えたように感じますね。
組織の観点でも同様です。今回のコロナの感染拡大に対しても早期にリモートへ切り替えたし、サポート制度の整備や日々の変化に柔軟にアジャストが上手く行われていると感じています。

I like the flexibility of various aspects of the project and organization.
For example, in the case of a project, the role expected of me varies from time to time, as does the breadth of the type of project itself. At the company I used to work for, there was a member who was dedicated to project management, but at Takram, there is currently no one in a project management role, so I am expected to play a role in project progression in addition to my role as a designer. I feel that I have been able to expand my skills more because of this characteristic of Takram.
The same is true from an organizational perspective. In response to the spread of the pandemic, we switched to remote as soon as possible, and I feel that we are doing a good job of maintaining support systems and flexibly adjusting to daily changes.

What interests you now？

自宅の建設に向けて、家づくりを楽しんでいます。コロナをきっかけに「自宅にいる時間の体験」を意識するようになり、自分や家族、ペットが歳を重ねたシチュエーションなど今だけでなく長い時間軸での人生を想像しながらプランニングすることはとても楽しいですね。また、普段Takramでは企業のパートナーとして仕事をしていますが、自分がクライアントになる体験も新鮮です。

I am enjoying the process of building my home. This pandemic has made me more aware of the "experience of time at home". I’m planning while imagining life on a long time scale, not just now, such as situations where you, your family, and your pets have aged. Also, although I usually work as a corporate partner at Takram, it is refreshing to experience being a client myself.

みなさんの記憶に残る体験、あるいは感動した体験はなんですか？
サービスデザイン、コミュニケーションデザイン、インタラクションデザイン様々な体験に紐づくデザインの分野がありますが、それらの体験を触感、匂い、音などはより彩り鮮やかに、そして立体的にしてくれる要素なんだなと感じた取材でした。小山さん、取材対応ありがとうございました。

Takramには現在50名ほどのメンバーが在籍していますが、1人1人、持っているスキルは画一的ではなく、50通り存在しています。今回取材に協力いただいた小山さんはTakramでは唯一のサウンドデザイナーとして活躍していますが、このように個人のスキルや経験、興味によってTakramのプロジェクトの幅や深みが作られ、輪郭が拡張していくのもTakramの大きな特徴となっています。
