What’s CBB?

Today I would like to write about the CBB school where I started an internship. First of all, I will briefly explain the current state of Cambodian education.

The current state of Cambodian education

The reality is that developing countries in Asia are still unable to provide sufficient education due to the lack of factors such as improvements of capability of English teachers, advancement of educational equipment and introduction of ICT devices. Especially among those nations, United Nations Committee for Development Policy(2017) announced that Cambodia is a Least Developed Country(LDC). In Cambodia, there are still lots of issues such as Economic disparity, low quality of education, poverty and low literacy rate. Cambodia's English proficiency is 85th, which is not high (Education First, 2018).

What’s CBB?

In cbb, “bicycle support” was provided so that children could go to school. We also supported university admission for high school students. CBB has established a language school, CBB School, in rural areas. Currently, nearly 30 elementary school students, junior high school students, and high school students go to CBB school every day to learn Japanese and English. Intern students from Japan not only conduct classes but also run the school. One Cambodian staff lives in the CBB school and supports classes. Currently, there are 3 short-term intern students and 4 long-term intern students.

The mission is as follows.

Mission 1 “Provide free access to education for all children”

There are still many children who cannot graduate from high school in the area where CBB School is located. The significance of providing free education in such poor areas is immeasurable.

Mission 2 “Create human resources responsible for the country”

The first mission focuses on delivering education to as many children as possible. However, you cannot see the future after delivering the minimum education. Therefore, if we can produce young people who support national and local governments and educational institutions from this poor region, the situation may change a little more. We will also develop human resources to produce leaders with such expectations.

Next time, I want to write about returning to school support CBB is doing.

Thank you.
