じつに立派な大砲である。
太くて長くて黒々と光っている。

大砲は二つの車輪の上に乗っており　
牛馬で引いて移動することができる。

その大きな二つの車輪のどちらにも　
頭と手足が正五角形になるような状態で　
若い女が鎖で縛りつけられている。

敵国の皇族の姉妹だということだが　
破れた皮衣を着せられているだけで　
その白い両脚はむき出しになっている。

今は車輪の上の位置に彼女たちの頭があり　
豊かで長い髪が垂れ下がっているために　
彼女たちの顔を見ることはできない。

だが、弾丸が発射されると、その反動で大砲が後退し　
いくらか車輪が回転するため　
彼女たちの美しい顔を見ることができる。

そうやって顔を見ることはできるが　
いくら続けて弾丸が発射されても
彼女たちの悲鳴を聞くことはできない。

それが彼女たちに残された唯一の抵抗、
あるいは誇りであるらしい。
