I hope that after reading the following, as many international students as possible will decide to study Japanese.

When you come to Japan as an international student, I strongly recommend that you start studying Japanese from the very beginning.
The reason I encourage international students to study Japanese is not because I provide the online Japanese language classroom platform service PONTIS.
I believe it is important for international students to learn Japanese. This is why I started PONTIS.

【Reasons for considering Japanese language study important】
• Job opportunities:
Without proficiency in Japanese, securing employment in Japan after studies becomes exceedingly challenging.

As a result, many international students cannot find a job in Japan even if they want to after their studies are over.

【Comments from friends】
Graduate schools are busy with research and thesis writing. There is little time for Japanese language study.
Most of my friends who are international students from Africa give this explanation as to why they are not studying Japanese.

However, my friend from Senegal shared the following with me: While graduate school is indeed demanding, there is usually some time to study Japanese during the first six months or so.
Unfortunately, during that initial period in Japan, many fail to realize the importance of speaking Japanese.
By the time they recognize its significance, they are already too occupied with their research or have limited time left in their study abroad period.

【Conclusion】
My wish isn't for international students to study Japanese solely for the sake of securing employment in Japan.
Proficiency in Japanese fosters deeper and broader connections with Japanese people.
It not only allows Japanese individuals to become closer to you but also sparks their interest in your homeland and culture.

I understand that life in Japan is vastly different from your home country, with numerous tasks such as university procedures, municipal processes, and opening a bank account adding to your already busy schedule.
Nevertheless, I strongly urge you to start learning Japanese as early as possible.
If you begin right after arriving in Japan, you'll have plenty of time to manage your studies effectively.

４月になり、新しい留学生の人もやってきました。　
以下のことを読んで、少しでも沢山の留学生の方が、日本語を学ぼうと思ってくれると嬉しいです。

留学で日本に来た時、その最初から日本語の勉強を始めることを強くすすめます。
私が留学生のみなさんに日本語の勉強を勧めるのは、私がオンラインの日本語教室プラットフォームサービス「PONTIS」を提供しているからではありません。
私は留学生のみなさんが日本語を学ぶことが重要だと考えています。私がPONTISを始めた理由はこれです。

【日本語を学ぶことが重要だと考えている理由】
・仕事の機会： 日本語能力がないと、留学後の日本での就職は非常に困難になります。
・文化的つながり： 日本語を話せると、日本人とより親しくなることができます。また、お互いの文化を理解しやすくなります。

確かに、大学院は忙しいです。でも、最初の半年程度は日本語の勉強をする時間もあります。
残念なことに、日本に来て最初の半年くらいは多くの人は日本語を話すことの重要性に気づかないままです。
その重要性に気づいたときには、すでに研究がとても忙しかったり、留学期間が残り少なくなっていることが多いです。

【結論】
私の願いは留学生の皆さんが日本での就職のためだけに日本語を勉強することではありません。
日本語を話せるようになると、日本人とより深く広いつながりを持つことができます。
日本人がみなさんの母国やその国の文化に興味を持つきっかけになります。

みなさんが生まれ育った国と日本とはすごく生活環境が違うと思います。
大学の手続きや自治体の手続き、銀行口座の開設など、日本に着くと大学の勉強の他にしないといけないことがたくさんあります。
それでも、私はできるだけ早くみなさんが日本語の学習を始めることを強くお勧めします。
日本に到着した直後から学習を始めれば、時間は十分あります。
