娘のかれんは、日本で小さい頃からバレエ教室に通っていました。将来の夢は、バレリーナ！と言うことに一応なっています。私とバレエの公演を観に行ったり、週何回かバレエ教室のレッスンに行くのは大好きなのですが、家でストレッチやトレーニング等の練習を全くやらないので、「一応」としました😂。日本ではバレエのガチ勢はめちゃくちゃ長時間練習し、自宅でもトレーニング欠かさず、コンクールに出まくっています。かれんは日本では中学受験塾にも通っていたし、そうゆうガチ勢では全然ありません。

そんなかれんは、オランダでもバレエを続けたいと言うことでしたので、日本にいる時から私は色々リサーチしていました。私が調べられた範囲内の情報では、オランダには日本のようにたくさん習い事としてのバレエ教室がある訳ではなく、ごく少数の職業バレリーナ養成学校と、お遊戯レベルのダンス教室の二極化している印象です。

バレリーナ養成学校は、アムステルダムとデン・ハーグに一つずつあり、いずれもプロのバレエ団付属のバレエ学校と言う位置づけです。ウェブサイトを確認すると、どちらも入るためにはオーディションに合格しなければなりません。これらのバレエ学校は、10歳前後から本格的に週12時間くらいレッスンするコースがスタートします。しかし私達の渡蘭は、オランダ各地で行われる一次オーディションがちょうど終わったくらいのタイミングです。日本からメールで問い合わせると、渡蘭後にオーディションぜひ受けてくださいと、優しいお返事をいただきました☺。アムステルダムの方は、かれんに合わせてプライベートオーディションをやってくれると！近年日本人のバレエダンサーはオランダ含む世界各国で活躍しているし、ティーンネイジャーの留学生も多くがんばっているので、日本人の評判が良いおかげなんだろうなと思いました。ちなみにかれんのビデオや写真を送ったりは一切していません。

オーディションはまず一次があり、これに合格すると4月末のファイナルオーディションに向けたレッスンコースに参加可能になります。ウェブサイトにはオーディションでどんなことをやるかの説明動画もあります。日本のコンクールのようにバリエーション踊るとか難しい 技とかは一切なくて、子どもの身体の柔軟性や可動域を確認するのと、音楽性を見るような感じです。現時点の踊りの上手さではなく、プロのバレエダンサーの素質があるかどうかを判断するんじゃないかなと思いました。

それにしても動画に出てくる子どもたちがスタイル抜群でかわいらしいこと！フツーに日本人体型のかれんがこの中に入れるような気がしないのですが😅

アムステルダムのバレエ学校が指定して来たオーディション日はオランダ到着の一週間後で、まだ時差ボケも直っていないし、家のインフラも整っていない状況でした！まだ車もないので、レンタカーを借りました。かいとを一人で家に置いていくのも心配なので、家族みんなでバレエ学校へ。オーディションは、かれんの他にもう一人女の子が来ていて、2人で受けることになりました。その子はカリブ系かなと思われるオランダ人で、褐色の肌で細いながらもしっかりと筋肉がついたしなやかな身体！素人目にもしっかりとトレーニングをしている人だとわかりました。

通されたところは、天井がめちゃ高くて勾配付きの客席があって、舞台のリハーサルやちょっとした発表会ができるような広いスタジオでした。もちろんグランドピアノあります。ハイティーンのアカデミー生達が自主練していました、こんなところで練習できるなんて恵まれた環境だわ。。。家族も観ていって良いよーと言われたので客席へ。もう一人の女の子は、早速ストレッチしたり、ピルエット(回転)してみたり、めちゃ堂々と落ち着いていて準備に入りました。ひゃーーーめっちゃ身体能力高そう…こんなすごそうな子とガチで比較されるじゃんかれん終わった😱と実は私は内心思いました。

かれんは緊張して私から離れなくなっていて、ストレッチしたら？と声かけても動きません。すると先生が、スタジオで練習していたアカデミー生を指して、日本人もいるわよと声をかけてくれました！そして練習していた女の子2人と男の子1人がかれんのそばに来てくれたのです。彼らは17-18歳の日本からの留学生でした！かれんが今日これからオーディションだと伝えると、がんばってー💓と応援してくれて、彼らの他にも日本人バレエピアニストさんもいることなど、色々お話してくれました。優しいお姉さんお兄さんのおかげでちょっと緊張がほぐれたかれん。そしてオーディションがスタートしました。

なんと思いがけず前書きで長くなってしまいました！オーディションの様子は次に書こうと思います。

My daughter Karen has attended ballet classes in Japan since she was a small child. Her dream is to become a ballerina! She loves going to ballet performances with me and going to ballet lessons several times a week, but she doesn't do any stretching, training or other exercises at home honestly😂. In Japan, ballet stiffs practise for very long hours, never miss training at home and compete in competitions. In Japan, Karen went to a cram school for junior high school entrance exams, and she is not that kind of hard ballet worker at all.

Since Karen wanted to continue ballet in the Netherlands, I had done a lot of research while I was in Japan. From what I was able to find out, I got the impression that there are not as many ballet schools in the Netherlands as there are in Japan, but that there are a very small number of professional ballerina training schools and dance classes at a playful level.

There is one ballerina training school in Amsterdam and one in Den Haag, both of which are positioned as ballet schools attached to professional ballet companies. A check of the websites shows that in order to enter either of these schools, students have to pass an audition. These ballet schools start courses of around 12 hours a week of lessons in earnest from the age of around 10 years old. However, our arrival in the Netherlands was just at the end of the first round of auditions held around the Netherlands. When we contacted them by email from Japan, they kindly replied that we should definitely audition after coming to the Netherlands☺. The person in Amsterdam said that they would do a private audition for Karan! In recent years, Japanese ballet dancers have been active all over the world, including the Netherlands, and many teenage students have been working hard, so I thought it must be thanks to the good reputation of Japanese people and they setup an additional audition for Karen. By the way, we did not send any videos or photos of Karan.

There is a first round of auditions, and if you pass this, you can join the lesson course to prepare for the final audition at the end of April. There is a video on the website explaining what the audition involves. There are no dance variations or difficult techniques, but rather a check of the flexibility and range of movement of the child's body and a look at their musicality. I thought that it is not about how good the dancer is at the moment, but whether they have the qualities of a professional ballet dancer or not.

By the way, the children in the video are very stylised and cute! I don't think Karen, who has a full Japanese body shape, could be one of them 😅

The audition date that the ballet school in Amsterdam had designated was a week after our arrival in the Netherlands, so we were still jet-lagged and the infrastructure at home was not yet in place! We didn't have a car yet, so we rented a car. I was worried about leaving Kai at home alone, so the whole family went to the ballet school together. For the audition, there was another girl besides Karen. The girl was a Dutch girl of possibly Caribbean descent, with brown skin and a thin but well-muscled, supple body! Even I could tell she was a well-trained person. We were taken to a large studio with a very high ceiling and sloping seating area, which could be used for stage rehearsals or small recitals. Of course, there is a grand piano. The high teen academy students were practising on their own, it's a blessed environment to be able to practise in such a place. We were told that whole family could also watch the audition. The other girl was stretching and doing pirouettes (rotations) and was very calm and composed as she got ready. Actually, I thought to myself, 'Wow, she looks like she has really high physical ability... Celica is going to be compared with such an amazing-looking girl."

Karen was so nervous that she wouldn't move away from me, and even if I asked her to stretch, she wouldn't move.  Then the teacher pointed to the academy students who were practising in the studio and said, 'There are Japanese too! Then two girls and a boy who were practising came to stand by Karen. They were 17-18 year old students from Japan! When Karen told them that she was going to audition today, they cheered her up 💓 and told her a lot about them. Thanks to them, Karen was able to relax a little. Then the audition started!
