1862年の7月4日は、
『不思議の国のアリス』の物語が生まれた日なのだそう。
160年前に生まれたこのお話は、
即興で創られたのが最初で、
実在の人がモデルになっているのだとか。

気付きました。

強い心を持ちたい時には、赤の薔薇色の魔法を。
薔薇色は、憧れの心を示す時に。
示すのはきっと、自分自身へ。

不思議の国のアリスの物語をご存知でしょうか？
物語には、
庭師たちが間違えて白い薔薇を咲かせてしまったことを
ハートの女王にバレないように赤く塗る、
というシーンがあります。

このハートの女王、英米タイプのトランプでは
エリザベス・オブ・ヨークという女性が
モデルとなっているという伝説が。
薔薇戦争で最後のイングランド王となった、
ヘンリー7世の妻です。
薔薇戦争。出てきましたね、薔薇。

この薔薇戦争で争っていた両家の家紋は、白薔薇と赤薔薇。
白薔薇のヨーク家と、赤薔薇のランカスター家。
その名前がついた
「ヨークアンドランカスター」という薔薇が実在するようです。
赤と白の混ざりあう珍しい薔薇が
この戦いの後に咲いた、というのが由来なのだそう。

こうした現実とファンタジーが入り混じった不思議さが
目に見えないものが形なったものに触れる喜び。
より一層このインクを魅力的に感じさせます。

フェリスホイールプレスのインクの箱には、

ひとつひとつの色に込めた愛情が伝わってきます。

私はもっぱらこういうのが大好きで、
そこかしこに隠された色の名前のモチーフやメッセージなど、
どうにも探さずにはいられない性分。
見過ごしてしまいそうなところにひっそりとある隠れ○○や、
名探偵のお話の中に隠されていたトリックや伏線の謎を解いたような。

探すことの楽しさや、そこから自分で答えを発見することは
インクを作った方々が込めたメッセージを受け取れる、嬉しい時間です。

薔薇にはさまざまな品種がありますが、
その中でも私が強さを感じるのは、赤い薔薇。

赤は革命や自由の象徴として、太陽をイメージした
国旗の配色にも使われることのある色。
強く心を惹きつける、誘目性の高い性質をもちます。

赤に惹かれるのは、
動き出したい力が欲しい時、ともいわれます。
自分の意志で動く姿に人は魅力を感じるから、
そこに赤の印象を覚えるのかもしれませんね。
