Among the articles on ‘note’, I often see the articles about the film 'The Shining'. This is a film screened in 1980, some forty years ago. Yet it has still attracted a lot of cinema fans. It must have something special that have attracted them for forty years. As it has not been shown in cinemas recently as far as I know, most of the writers who have written the articles about the film must have seen it on TV or video on demand such as Prime Video. I had also tried to watch it on Prime Video several times. Each time, however, I was always reminded of an old bad experience. It was forty years ago, when I was still in Kyoto. AT that time, I heard that the film would be soon screened in Kyoto. I was very excited and rushed to Shochikuza, a cinema in Kyoto, to buy an early bird ticket. I had been looking forward to seeing the film as it had been highly anticipated. About a week after I bought the ticket, the film was released. But I was so busy at university that I was unable to go to see it at once. Nevertheless, I thought I needed not to be in a hurry and I had enough time to see it since it must be screened for at least a few weeks or longer. At that time, once a new film was released at a cinema, it used to last for at least a few weeks and had never been canceled in a week. But Shochikuza suddenly cancelled the film in a week without prior notice and began to show another film. As a result, I missed the film and had to give up my ticket. That traumatized me. Since then, whenever I try to see the film, I am reminded of it. That prevents me from enjoying the film, and I stop watching it.

　他のライターさんの記事を読んでいると、「シャイニング」という映画に関する記事をたびたび目にします。この映画は、今から４０年以上も前の1980年に公開された映画です。この映画には、いまだに多くのファンを引き付けるだけの何かがあるのだと思います。この映画は最近、劇場では公開されていないはずですので、この映画に関する記事を書いた方々は、テレビかプライムビデオなどのビデオ・オン・デマンドで見られたのだと思います。ボクも、何度か、プライムビデオでこの映画を見ようとしたのですが、見るたびに苦い経験が蘇ってくるのです。それは、ボクが京都に居た40年前にことです。この映画が京都で間もなく上映されると聞いたので、急いで、映画館の松竹座に前売り券を買いに行きました。当時も、この映画の前評判は高く、ぜひ見たいと思っていたのです。そして、前売り券を購入した1週間後くらいに映画が公開されました。公開されたらすぐに見に行けばよかったのですが、その時、大学の用事で忙しく、すぐに行けませんでした。でも、焦らなくても、見に行く時間はたっぷりとあると思っていたのです。その当時は、新作映画を封切りすると少なくとも数週間は上映していて、1週間で中止することはなかったのです。ところが、松竹座がこの映画の上映を1週間くらいで中止し、他の映画の上映を始めたのです。おかげ、ボクは、この映画を見逃し、前売り券の捨てる羽目になったのです。
　これでトラウマになりました。それから、この映画を見ようとしても、この悔しい思い出が蘇ってきて、映画を楽しめなくなりました。
