Japan will accept foreign visitors from June 10. The tourism industry has long-awaited the decision.
 This country is friendly to foreign tourists and has many services for them.
 They do not need to talk with the staff at most restaurants and bars, which have English, Korean and Chinese menus with images.
 They can manage to travel around Japan alone. There are many multilingual traffic signs and information boards around Japan. In particular, big cities like Tokyo have an abundance of them. With them, visitors can walk around there alone and do not need to talk with locals.
 Portable translation devices have been in wide use in Japan. The most popular one is POCKETALK. I have seen it help station staff to interact with the visitors.
 But, visitors sometimes need some local support. I experienced it about five years ago. It happened on a town bus in Kyoto.

　6月から外国人観光客の受入れが始まるようです。観光業界が待ちに待った決定です。
　日本は海外旅行客にやさしく、様々なサービスを提供しています。レストランやバーでは、英語、韓国語と中国語の画像付きメニューが用意されています。従って、観光客はスタッフと話をしなくても、欲しいものを注文できます。
　また、日本国内を一人で旅行が出来くらい、多言語に翻訳された標識や案内板があります。特に東京などの大都市では、観光客が一人で歩き回われるくらい大量の標識や案内板があります。地元の人と言葉を交わす必要がないくらいです。
　最近では、携帯型の翻訳機が活躍しています。一番使われているのがPOCKTALKです。駅員さんが外国の観光客とのやりとりで重宝しているのを見たことがあります。
　でも、観光客も時には地元のサポートが必要です。5年位前にそんな経験をしました。京都で市バスに乗ったときのことでした。
