お久しぶりです。
Long time no see.

4日からアメリカに来ています。
I’ve been in the U.S. since November 4.

今回は、僕がアメリカに来た理由、アメリカで何を得たいのかを説明したいと思います。
This time, I’ll describe some reasons why I came to the U.S. and what I’m searching for.

どうして英語も書いているかって？
Why did I write not only in Japanese but also in English?

それは、僕が英語を学ぶためですが、僕の担当コーチが日本語を学ぶためにもそうしています。
That’s because I wanna learn English and my coach wanna learn Japanese too.

ピッチングの本質が知りたい Understanding the Essence of Pitching

今年は、去年に比べてシーズン中に良い登板が増えたと思っています。
I’m sure that the number of games which I succeeded this year increased from last year.

ですが、打ち込まれた試合も多く、結果に波のあるシーズンになってしまいました。
However, there were a lot of games which I missed, so my work has been inconsistent.

原因を考えたところ、どうすれば強いボールが投げられるのか、というポイントを理解できていないからではないかと思っています。
After thinking about the cause, it might be because I don’t fully understand how to throw strong balls.

そこで、自分のピッチング理論を改めるためにアメリカの施設でトレーニングすることを考えました。
And so I decided to challenge training in the U.S. to rethink my pitching theory.

日本より速いボールを投げるアメリカのピッチャーがどんなトレーニングをしているか学べば、ピッチングの本質に近づけると思ったからです。
Since most Japanese pitchers don’t throw as fast as American pitchers, I predicted I’ll be able to come closer to the true essence of pitching if I learn how they train.

もちろん、ピッチデザインなども体験してみるつもりです。
Of course, I’m planning to get some experience in pitch design, etc.

自分の世界を広げたい Expanding my World

実は、大学JAPANの遠征などでしか海外に行ったことがありません。
As a matter of fact, I’ve been abroad on only tours as a member of the Japanese university national team.

1人旅はもちろん、家族と行ったこともないんです。
I’ve never been abroad alone, nor with my family.

そんな僕が1人で海外にトレーニングに行けば、自分の狭い世界が一気に広がるだろうと思いました。
I thought my small world will expand at once, if I go abroad alone to train.

すでに、価値観がひっくり返るような体験をいくつもさせてもらえました。
Already, there were several experiences which turned my values upside down.

今回の旅をサポートしてくれている友人が、このような言葉を教えてくれました。
My friend supporting me on this trip told me this phrase.

Better Late Than Never

直訳すると「遅いことはしないより良い」ってことで、始めることに遅いことなんてないよって意味だそうです。
That phrase means that it’s better to act later than never, in other words, it’s not late to begin.

僕は来年1月に33歳になります。
I’m gonna be 33 years old next January.

選手として、「もう33歳」と思ったこともありますが、今は「まだ33歳」だと思っています。
As a player, I used to think “I’m already 33.” but now I’m thinking “I’m still 33.”

まだまだ選手としての価値を上げられると信じていますし、そのために全力を尽くします。
I believe that my value as a player can grow, and for that, I’ll do my best.
