12日目大関貴景勝を圧倒し10勝目をあげた。二場所連続優勝こそ逃しましたが11勝4敗の好成績で大関確実となった。これで同門の元横綱鶴竜の断髪式には大関霧馬山として臨むでしょう。鶴竜との約束を果たしね、霧馬山。

I've been rooting for Kiribayama, and he was expected to be promoted to the Ozeki rank with his 10th win at least in the May tournament, following his 11th win in the January and his championship win in the March tournament.
He achieved it!. He got 10th win by defeating Takakeisho Ozeki on the 12th day of the tournament. While he missed the second consecutive championship but did get his 11th win as a result of the May tournament.
Congratulations, Kiribayama! You can attend Kakuryu's retirement ceremony as an Ozeki. You did fullfill the promise with your brother wrestler from the same hometown.
