兵庫県西宮市の市花は「さくら」。阪神間のサクラの名所としてよく知られている夙川公園は「日本さくらの名所100選」に選ばれ、「さくら」は西宮市の象徴となっている。

The city flower in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture is "Sakura". Shukugawa Park, which is well-known as a famous place for cherry blossoms between Hanshinkan, has been selected as one of the "100 Best Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan", and "Sakura" is a symbol of Nishinomiya City.

どこの市町村にもあるのだろうが、西宮市も植物バイオテクノロジーを活用し、西宮市における特色ある緑化を推進するためのサポート機関「西宮市植物生産研究センター」というのが存在する。
そのセンターが「さくら」の研究に取り組んでいる。先日紹介した「今津紅寒桜」と、「西宮権現平桜」と「夙川舞桜」の3種が西宮市オリジナル「さくら」として限られた場所で育成されている。今津紅寒桜は、名前通りに今津町の大東公園の一角で、早咲きのサクラとして一足早く満開を迎えている。
そして、西宮権現平桜と夙川舞桜は、市役所の南側の六湛寺南公園と、夙川の羽衣橋南東の一角で見ることができる。この2種類は並んでいるので比較しながら楽しめる。

The center is working on research on "Sakura". The three types of "Imazu Benikanzakura", "Nishinomiya Gongendairazakura" and "Shukugawa Maizakura" introduced the other day are cultivated in a limited place as Nishinomiya City's original "Sakura". As the name suggests, Imazu Benikanzakura is in the corner of Daito Park in Imazu Town, and is in full bloom as an early blooming cherry tree.
Nishinomiya Gongendirazakura and Shukugawa Maizakura can be seen in Rokutanji south park on the south side of the city hall and in the southeast corner of Shukugawa's Hagoromo Bridge. These two types are lined up so you can enjoy while comparing them.

西宮権現平桜は、水上勉氏の小説「桜守」のモデルにもなった桜博士・故笹部新太郎氏が樹形、花のよさ、成長の早さなど日本一と称えたヤマザクラ「権現平桜」の実生苗をセンターが植物バイオ技術を使って増殖した品種である。
ヤマザクラ系で、花は4月上旬に咲き白色で一重、成長が早く、潮風にも強い品種といわれている。

Nishinomiya Gongendirazakura is a wild cherry tree called "Gongendirazakura", which was praised by the late Dr. Shintaro Sasabe, who became the model for Tsutomu Minakami's novel "Sakuramori", as the best in Japan for its tree shape, good flowers, and fast growth. It is a variety of "Sakura" seedlings grown by the center using plant biotechnology. It is a wild cherry tree, and the flowers bloom in early April and are white, single, fast-growing, and are said to be resistant to sea breeze.

◆市役所南側の南六湛寺公園に並ぶ「西宮権現平桜」

一方、夙川舞桜は平成11年に市内雲井町で確認されたもので、夙川周辺のサクラから自
然交配によってできた西宮生まれ。センターは平成14年より増殖に取り組み、平成17年に市民の投票で「夙川舞桜」と名付けられた。
花は八重咲きで、はじめは淡紅色でだんだんと白色に変化する。成長は権現平桜と同じように成長は早く、苗木を植えてから開花まで2～3年と期間が短い。

On the other hand, Shukugawa Maizakura was confirmed in Kumoi-cho in the city in 1999, and was born in Nishinomiya, which was formed by natural mating from the cherry blossoms around Shukugawa. The center has been working on proliferation since 2002 and was named " Shukugawa Maizakura " by a citizen's vote in 2005.
The flowers are double-flowered, initially pink and gradually turn white. The growth is as fast as Gongendirazakura, and the period from planting the seedlings to flowering is short, 2 to 3 years.

この2種類のサクラはまだ蕾を膨らませている状態 (3月27日現在) なのでもうすぐ開花する。日本テレビ系の朝の情報番組「スッキリ」で阿部リポーターが行っている「開花宣言」ではなく、真似ギャグで「満開宣言」をしてみようと思う。その際は、今津紅寒桜の写真と合わせ西宮オリジナルサクラの三桜そろい組の写真を紹介するのでお楽しみに!

These two types of cherry blossoms are still inflating their buds (as of March 27), so they will bloom soon.
