2024年、日本は波乱含みの幕開けとなりましたね。
元旦に起こった能登の大地震に続き、羽田空港では航空機同士の接触事故による大惨事が起こってしまいました。新年早々に立て続けにこんなに事件が起こる確率って一体どれくらいなのでしょう…というくらい波乱な幕開けです。

元旦の地震に関しては、海外(特にアメリカ)の人たちの間でも色んな憶測が飛び交い始めてるみたいです。みなさんいろんなことを本当によくご存知です。特にアメリカは、今年は大統領選挙が控えているのでいろんな情報が錯綜しているのかもしれませんね。羽田の事故の件では、JALの乗務員の方の冷静な行動によって乗客乗員すべての人の命を救ったことに海外では賞賛の嵐が巻き起こっているそうですが、日本であまり話題になっていないのは残念なことです。

今年は息つく暇がないほど年明けから物事が動き始めていますが、おそらくまだまだいろんなことが起こるのだと思います。でも、日本人のとる行動によって日本の良い側面にも光が当たる年だとしたら…そんな年になるよう希望は捨てずにいきましょう。

そして、いろんなことが起こるからといって変にカチコチにならず柔軟さは忘れずにいたいですね。かといってフワフワし過ぎることもなく、地に足つけながらも毎日心豊か、表情豊かでありたいものです。

この世界は二極化するとか二極に分かれたなどと言われ始めて久しいですが、今回はこの二極化や二元性について感じたことをお伝えしたく思います。二極化というと、スピリチュアルに詳しい人なら耳タコな話かもしれませんね。ただ、今のうちに深く落とし込んでおかなければいけないと感じますので、しつこかろうがなんであろうが何度でも機会があれば話していこうと思います。

最近になって自分のガイド的存在から観るように言われていたのが、映画「ダークナイト」でした。けっこう前に、ホアキン・フェニックス主演の映画「ジョーカー」を観る機会があったのですが、どちらも異なる「ジョーカー」でありストーリーも異なるものの、「悪の化身」としてダークサイドに転落してしまった人間の心理状態が巧みに描写された作品となっています。

ここからは、少しネタバレを含みますので、知りたくない人はここで止めておいてください。そして、新年早々からこのような映画を観たり語ったりすることに抵抗があるという人も、これ以上は読まないでおくことをお勧めします。冷静な視点で客観視できる人のみ読み進めてくださいね。

私自身は、この世界を二極(二元)で捉えることを否定はしません。実際に現象としての光も闇も存在しますし、物事の指針としての善も悪もあるからです。ただ、その捉え方には深みを持たせる必要があるということは理解しなければいけないと思っています。それは光と闇とを統合する上で必要であると感じるからです。

フワフワしたスピリチュアルばかりを追いかけている時期は、光ばかりを欲しがって求めてしまい、片側にある闇を理解することに目を向けなくなるものですが、それだと片手落ちでありただただ現実逃避しているに過ぎないと感じます。そして、結局浅いところの学びだけで終わってしまって統合されないまま地上での滞在時間が終了してしまうわけです。それを何度も転生しながら経験して繰り返しているというのに人間というのはなかなか氣づかないものなんですね。

だから、現実から目を背けずに闇に対してもちゃんと光を当てていくことをしなければいけないと思うのです。二極があるからこそ、互いの中にある異なる可能性を見出せるわけですしね。

映画「ダークナイト」ではジョーカーは悪役として登場し、彼に敵対するヒーローとしてバットマンが活躍します。物語には「正義と悪」の両極が前提として描かれていて、互いに戦いを繰り広げることでストーリーが展開していきます。

ダークナイトは、一見すると善と悪がはっきり分かれており、悪者であるジョーカーをみんなのヒーローであるバットマンがやっつけに来るというわかりやすい構図があるのですが、ホアキン・フェニックス主演の映画「ジョーカー」にはヒーローとされる存在が登場しません。ストーリーは主人公のジョーカーがいかにしてダークサイドに堕ちていったのかという心理描写がただただ描かれています。

どちらの物語にも共通しているのは、悪のきっかけとなるものは私たち一人ひとりの心の中にそもそも内在しており、何かのきっかけで個々がそれを創造してしまうのではないかといった根源的な問いかけがあることです。一人ひとりの心に潜む、おそらく誰もが持ち合わせているような闇。それは負の感情であり、お金や地位や自分の家族にだけ向けられた執着やエゴであって、そういう些細な負が積み重なっていくことで、やがて大きな「化身」を創り出すというような。誰しもが心の奥に抱える小さな闇。それらが幾重にも重なり合いながら、他の誰かを極限にまで追い詰めてしまった先に悪の正体が見えてくるわけです。

結局、一人ひとりの中に「悪」の種があるのだということが、これでもかというくらい作品の中では繰り返し描かれます。人間である以上、誰にでもある闇です。私の中にもありますし、どんなに善良そうに生きている人であっても大なり小なり闇の因子はあるのです。

ただ、心に隙があったために知らず知らずのうちにそれが成長してしまい、やがて巨大な化身を生み出してしまう…。最初は、正義のつもりでやったことかもしれないし、本人にとっては他の誰かを守るための善意のつもりだったのかもしれない。けれども、そこに負の因子がわずかでもあれば、それは魔物にとって変わる可能性があるのだという警告にも感じます。

最初は、だいたいが些細なことから始まるんです。ほんのちょっとしたことなんだけどそこに隙ができてしまう。自我や欲望が出てしまって、自分の立場や名誉を守ろうとした行動が引き金になったり、自己中心的な考えや発想がきっかけだったり、過去に傷ついたトラウマが再燃したり…そうやって最初は小さかったことがだんだん大きく変化していき、最終的には取り返しのつかないことが起きてしまうわけです。

ダークナイトでは、ジョーカーがそんな人々の心の隙に生まれた「闇」を炙り出していきます。闇によって闇が炙り出されるとは皮肉なものですけどね。そして、ヒーローであるバットマンにも闇はあるのです。ヒーローとして彼に憧れて仮装した市民がジョーカーによってコロされてしまう場面があるのですが、自分が存在していることでたくさんの人々を犠牲にしてしまったという罪の意識がバットマンに芽生えてしまいます。そうなるともうカオスで、光にも闇があるということが露呈してしまう。

光と闇はそうやって互いに牽制し合っているのですが、バットマン自身も相手を悪の側面でしか見ずに戦っているところを見ると相当闇が深いな、と個人的には思えてしまいます。ジョーカーには幼い頃に、自分の父親に母親を目の前でコロされてしまったという深い心の傷があるからです。

バットマンがジョーカーに心を開くことを決意し、どこか雰囲気の良い場末のバー辺りで酒でも酌み交わしながらジョーカーの苦労話でも聞いてやろうという気概がなければ、おそらく二人の戦いは永遠に終わらないように思います。「うんうん、そうか。お前も苦労したんだな、大変だったんだな。」くらいのジョーカーへの慰めの言葉があって初めてお互い良好なスタートラインに立てるのではないのかと。もちろん、ジョーカーに毒を盛られないように細心の注意は必要になるでしょうけどね。

一方、ホアキン・フェニックスのジョーカーにもなかなか深いドラマがあります。裏切りに次ぐ裏切りを経験し、社会に存在する貧富の格差という闇に後押しされながら自らの殺人を正当化するようになっていきます。遂には最愛の母親に裏切られたと感じたことで彼の心は完全に破壊されてしまい、更なる凶行に手を染めていくのです。

こちらのジョーカーも、幼少期に虐待を受けていたという過去があるのです。子供の頃に受けた心の傷がトラウマとなり、そこに問題を解くカギが隠されているのだとしたら…。この2つのジョーカーに共通する部分は、「母親」であるとも捉えられます。ただ、バットマンも子供の頃に両親を殺害されるという経験をしている(そういう設定がある)んですね。

そう考えると、光とか闇とか一見かけ離れて両極のように見えているものが実は本質的にはそう違いがなくて、意識の持ち方や自身の心のあり方次第では、善にでも悪にでもなりうるのが人間であるという解釈にも繋げられます。

そんなことを考察しながら世の中の出来事を俯瞰してみると、いろんな見え方ができるのではないかなと思ったお正月でした。そういえば、ジョーカーって「最後の切り札」といわれていて、最後の最後までそれを保持しているとゲームでは「負け」が確定するんですよね。

もともとジョーカーとは「ジョークを言う者」の意味で、中世ヨーロッパの宮廷道化師のことを指すそうです。国の最高権力の座にある王様や貴族たちを宮廷内で笑わせたり皮肉っておどけたりする役割を持つ実在の存在だったそうで、つまり、権力の座にあるような王様に皮肉を言うことを許されていた人物ということになります。

なんとも深いですね。

The year 2024 has begun with a tumultuous start for Japan.
Following the Noto earthquake on New Year's Day, there was a catastrophic accident at Haneda Airport caused by a collision between two aircraft. What is the probability of such a series of incidents happening so early in the New Year?

It seems that even people overseas (especially in the U.S.) are beginning to speculate about the earthquake on New Year's Day. Everyone is very knowledgeable about various things. Especially in the U.S., there is a presidential election coming up this year, so there may be a lot of mixed information. Regarding the accident at Haneda Airport, the JAL crew is receiving a storm of praise overseas for their calm action that saved the lives of all the passengers and crew, but it is unfortunate that it has not been talked about much in Japan.

Things have been in motion since the beginning of the year, so much so that I don't have time to catch my breath this year, but I think there are probably many more things that will happen. But if this is the year when the good side of Japan will be illuminated by the actions taken by the Japanese people... let us not give up hope that this will be such a year.

And even though a lot of things are going to happen, we should not be too rigid, but remain flexible. But I also want to keep my feet on the ground, and be mindful and expressive in my daily life.

It has been a long time since people began to talk about the world being polarized or divided into two extremes, and I would like to share with you my feelings about this polarization and duality. If you are familiar with spirituality, the word "polarization" may be familiar to your ears. However, I feel that I need to get down deep into it now, so I will talk about it as often as I have the chance, whether it is persistent or not.

Recently, I was told to watch the movie "The Dark Knight" by a guiding presence of mine. Quite a while ago, I had the opportunity to watch the movie "The Joker" starring Joaquin Phoenix, and while both are different "Jokers" and have different stories, they both skillfully depict the psychological state of a person who has fallen to the dark side as "evil incarnate.

This section contains a few spoilers, so stop here if you don't want to know. And if you are not comfortable watching or talking about such a film early in the New Year, we recommend that you read no further. Please continue reading only if you can be objective with a calm perspective.

I myself do not deny that this world is viewed in two poles (binary). In fact, light and darkness exist as phenomena, and good and evil exist as guidelines for things. However, I believe that we need to understand that we need to add depth to the way we perceive the world. This is because I feel it is necessary in integrating light and darkness.

When we are chasing after fluffy spirituality, we only want and seek the light and do not pay attention to understanding the darkness on one side, but I feel that this is a one-sided fall and merely an escape from reality. And so, we end up learning only in the shallow end, and our time on earth ends without integration. It is very difficult for human beings to realize that they are repeating this experience over and over again in their many incarnations.

Therefore, we must not turn our eyes away from reality, but shine a light on the darkness as well. It is precisely because there are two extremes that we can see the different possibilities within each other.

In the movie "The Dark Knight," the Joker appears as the villain, and Batman is the hero who opposes him. The story is premised on the polarity of "right and wrong," and the story unfolds as they battle each other.

The Dark Knight, at first glance, has a clear division between good and evil, with a straightforward composition of the Joker, the bad guy, coming to take down Batman, everyone's hero, but in the movie "The Joker," starring Joaquin Phoenix, there is no supposed hero. The story is simply a psychological portrait of how the hero, the Joker, fell to the dark side.

What both stories have in common is a fundamental question: what triggers evil is inherent in each of our minds, and how can we individually create it? It is a darkness that lurks in the heart of each of us and that we probably all seem to have. It is a negative emotion, an attachment or ego directed only toward money, status, or one's own family, and such trivial negativity can accumulate to eventually create a large "incarnation. Everyone has a small darkness deep inside. These layers and layers of darkness, when they push someone else to the limit, reveal the true nature of evil.

In the end, the work repeatedly depicts the fact that the seeds of "evil" lie within each and every one of us, as if to say "no more". As long as we are human, we all have this darkness. I have it in me, and no matter how good a person seems to be in life, there is always some element of darkness in him or her, no matter how small or large.

It is just that because there is a gap in the heart, it grows unknowingly and eventually creates a huge incarnation.... At first, it may have been done with the intention of justice, or for him, it may have been a good intention to protect someone else. But if there is even the slightest negative factor, it feels like a warning that it could turn into a monster.

At first, it usually starts out as something trivial. It's just a little thing, but that's when the opening is made. Ego and desires come out, actions to protect one's position and honor become triggers, self-centered thoughts and ideas become triggers, traumas from the past resurface, and so on... What started out small gradually turns into something big, and eventually irreversible. In the Dark Knight, the Joker is the one who is the cause of all this.

In The Dark Knight, the Joker uncovers the "darkness" that is born in the cracks of people's hearts. It is ironic that the darkness is revealed by the darkness. And even Batman, the hero, has his own darkness. There is a scene in which the Joker murders a citizen who dressed up as a hero because he admires him, and Batman begins to feel guilty that he has sacrificed so many people because of his existence. Then it is already chaos, and it is revealed that even light has its darkness.

Light and darkness keep each other in check in this way, and I personally think that Batman himself is quite dark when I see him fighting with only the evil side of his opponents. This is because the Joker has a deep psychological scar from having had his own father kill his mother in front of him when he was a child.

Unless Batman decides to open his heart to the Joker and is willing to listen to the Joker's hardships over a drink somewhere in a nice bar, I don't think their fight will probably never end. He said, "Yeah, yeah, I see. You've been through a lot, too, haven't you?" I think that only when there are words of consolation to the Joker, such as "I know you've been through a lot, too, haven't you? Of course, I would have to be very careful not to poison the Joker.

On the other hand, Joaquin Phoenix's Joker also has quite a deep drama. He has experienced betrayal after betrayal, and he comes to justify his own murders, encouraged by the darkness of the disparity between rich and poor that exists in society. Finally, he feels betrayed by his beloved mother, which completely destroys his heart and leads him to further acts of violence.

The Joker also has a history of childhood abuse. What if the psychological trauma he suffered as a child was so traumatic that the key to solving his problems is hidden there...? The common denominator between these two Jokers can also be seen as "mother". But Batman also experienced the murder of his parents as a child (that's how it's set up).

This leads to the interpretation that light and darkness, which seem to be poles apart, are actually not so different in essence, and that human beings can be good or evil depending on how they are conscious and how their own minds work.

I thought that if we look at the events of the world from a bird's eye view while considering such things, we can see them in various ways. By the way, the joker is said to be the "last trump card," and if you hold on to it until the very end, you will "lose" the game.

Originally, the word "joker" meant "joke teller" and referred to the court jesters of medieval Europe. It is said that he was a real existence who had the role of making kings and nobles, who were in the highest position of power in the country, laugh and make fun of them ironically in their courts. In other words, he was a person who was allowed to make sarcastic remarks to such kings who were in the position of power.

How profound!
