ジャズの即興とノルウェーの民族音楽が結び付いてコラボしている作品である。北欧の巨人ヤンガルバレクについてはもはや説明を要しないだろう。本作はEberhart Weber(b)、Michael DiPasqua(ds)、David Torn(g)を擁したECM作品らしいメンバーでのクァルテット編成の演奏である。北欧らしい神秘的なシチュエーションの中で牧歌的なサウンドを備えたJanのサックスが鳴り響く。全曲ともに素晴らしい内容だがB3『It's OK to listen to the gray voice』におけるDavid Tornのシンセサイザーによって生み出された静寂の世界を切り裂くように叫喚するヤンのソプラノが凄過ぎる。余りにもディープであるが故に称賛する言葉すら失ってしまうほどだか。因みに本盤の各曲のタイトルはスウェーデンの戦後を代表する詩人Tomas transtromerの詩句から引用されているそうだ。1985年録音作品。☆☆☆☆☆

This is a collaboration between jazz improvisation and Norwegian folk music. There is no need to explain about the Scandinavian giant Jan Garbarek. This work is performed by a quartet with members typical of ECM works, including Eberhart Weber (b), Michael DiPasqua (ds), and David Torn (g). Jan's saxophone, with its idyllic sound, resounds in a mysterious situation typical of Scandinavia. All the songs are wonderful, but Jan's soprano screams in B3 "It's OK to listen to the gray voice" cuts through the silent world created by David Torn's synthesizer, which is just too amazing. It is so deep that I am at a loss for words to praise it. Incidentally, the titles of each song on this album are quoted from the poems of Tomas transtromer, a poet representing the post-war period in Sweden. Recorded in 1985. ☆☆☆☆☆
