I wanted to come up with a Japanese expression that would describe my retention of Japanese - words, grammar, etc. My retention is short-term and the things I learn disappear quickly. Perhaps it's because I'm lazy and don't use Japanese every day. In English we'd say "In one ear and out the other." The only expression I could find that comes close is "右から左に聞き流す" I wonder if there's a better expression?
