ピースボート主催のオンラインセミナーがあり、サーロー節子さんが登場した。

前から彼女のアクティビストとしてのメンタルが気になっており、コロンビアのアクティビストたちとも通ずるものがあると感じている。

そこで、彼女に質問する機会を得た。質問をチャットボックスに打ち込んだら、真っ先に答えてくれたので嬉しい☺️私の質問は、「あなたのアクティビストとしての活動のモチベーションはなんですか？」というもの。

以下、節子さんの回答を英語原文で載せてみる。そして、スペイン語訳をしたので、それも載せてみる。

It’s basically my experience, my memory, imagery, which ask all human mind, they keep pushing me forward. Now you see, at the beginning of 50’s I came to North America. I felt so alone. People were not interested in here in talking about nuclear weapon. But I don’t feel that aloneness today. I’m surrounded with a lot of like-minded people, experts and just all the citizens, young students. If all of us are motivated more, to stop it that a massive killing of human- being is not acceptable behavior. It’s totally illegal that is something we can avoid. Then, we learn more about this. We have to do some study from all angles historically, politically, morally, sociologically, psychologically. The more we learn, the more power we feel. And we can speak up with the confidence. And we can communicate our conviction with the decision-makers. And be bold, have courage, and be a realist. Be a realist doesn’t mean that you’re unrealistic. We can be realistic, but always have idealism the world without nuclear weapon, the world of justice to every human being, and to respect the right to live for every human being, to the dignity of every human being. If we have the basic moral conviction and equip ourselves with necessary technical or factures, historical knowledge on that. We come together with others, move and change the world. And we have done and we have achieved some of them already. This is why we are commemorating today. 3 years ago we achieved something. We can’t let us stand doing nothing. We have to make it work by bringing in other more nations. And ICAN people is doing that.

Es básicamente mi experiencia, mi memoria, las imágenes, que le preguntan a la mente humana, me siguen empujando hacia adelante. Ahora ves, a principios de los años cincuenta vine a Norteamérica.Me sentí tan sola. La gente no estaba interesada en hablar de armas nucleares. Pero hoy en día no me siento tan sola. Estoy rodeada de un montón de gente con ideas afines, expertos, ciudadanos y jóvenes estudiantes. Si todos estamos más motivados, podemos evitar una masacre de seres humanos, lo cual no es un comportamiento aceptable.Es totalmente ilegal, eso es algo que podemos evitar. Entonces, aprendemos más sobre esto. Tenemos que hacer un estudio desde todos los aspectos, históricos, políticos, morales, sociológicos y psicológicos. Entre más aprendamos, más poder tendremos. Y podemos hablar con confianza. Y podemos comunicar nuestra convicción a los que toman las decisiones. Y ser valientes, tener coraje y ser realista.　Ser realista no significa que no seas realista. Podemos ser realistas, pero siempre tener idealismo de un mundo sin armas nucleares, un mundo de justicia para todos los seres humanos, y respetar el derecho a la vida y a la dignidad de todos los seres humanos. Si tenemos la convicción moral básica y nos equipamos con las técnicas, hechos necesarios y con el conocimiento histórico. Nos unimos a otros, nos movilizamos y cambiamos el mundo. Y lo hemos hecho y ya hemos logrado algunos de estos objetivos. Por eso estamos conmemorando hoy que hace tres años logramos una meta. No podemos dejar de hacer nada. Tenemos que hacer que funcione convocando a otras naciones. La gente de ICAN está haciendo esto.
