#22 human farm

Tonight, YURI has the night shift.  Inside the hospital is dead silence.  The noisier in the daytime the place is, the more quiet at night.  She is on the eighth floor, where are a few nurses.  Even such a large hospital does not always accept patients.  As is often the case in TOKIO, when one cannot find a hospital, he or she might die during transport.  There are so many hospitalized patients that almost every bed is occupied.

An emergency patient has arrived.  Rescue staff  hands over him to the nurses.  They give him treatment and have him see the night doctor.  YURI sees the patient.  Regardless of conditions, the doctor on night duty is supposed to see one.  In the absence of a medical specialist, one is sometimes told to come again during office hours, however serious one's condition may be.

"How do you feel now?"
YURI asks him, but he does not answer.  He continually covers stomach with hands.  His spasm becomes more and more severe, shaking head violently.  At last, his head falls off to the floor.  She does not scream, but is really surprised.  Then suddenly, four hands push out of his stomach he has covered, at the center of which there is the face of alien.  The hands approach, hold, and push her down.

Soon after getting cotacted, the Youth members rush to the hospital.  YURI lies in bed like the dead.
"Look at this."
When the doctor pulls off the blanket, they find her skin from neck to shoulder has turned into green gel.  
"The green slime is parasitic in, or inhabits and depends on her skin for nutrition."
"Possible to remove?" KIRIYA
"No idea, now."
(Couldn't do anything near her.  Will die?  NO!)

Dead of next night, in the intensive care unit she lies in, the headless shadow stalks her.  It does not stand on the floor, but crawls on the ceiling.  Drooly approaching her, it opens its big mouth of stomach at her neck.

The moment, a flash in the dark cuts off four spider legs and returns through the face in stomach.  MOROBOSHI calls the Youth.

The autopsy results on alien-insect BURACO are as follows:
1. Living on green slime and making  a nest
2. Using human body as farm to breed slime
(Green slime likes melanin of young woman.)
3. Also using human body as transportation
(Alien likes to ride on human stomach.)
4. Having similar habits to ants or bees
5. Responding not so much to ET radar

Even after, young women are attacked and parasitized one after another.  S Univ Girls' dormitory in Yotsuya, maid cafe in Akihabara, and so on.  Each time, they are transported to T Univ Hospital.  The hospital rooms look like human farms for the alien-insects.  But they has seldom appeared.
"They might watch our moves.  But absolutely, they themselves must be beginning to move."
KIRIYA narrows the scope of investigation between TOKIO and Shinjuku. 

Especially in Kabuki-cho, Shinjuku, young prostitutes and runaway girls has disappeared in succession during a couple of days.  So, SOMA investigates and patrols around. 

Night and day, great many people crowd together around Kabuki-cho.  Stop and take a peek at the 50-100cm gap between buildings, and you will find long and narrow space spread up to the sky.  No passengers pay attention to it.   There is a rusty MYSTERIOUS staircase like an ivy on the building, which might have helped somebody escape for some reason.

Checking those similar places, SOMA feels somethng wrong about one of them.  There is a woman lying and mounted by two quadruped, or four legged aliens.  The moment, SOMA, the excellent sniper, has shot both spiders in the body.  One falls down, while the other climbs up the wall.  He connects to KIRIYA and the Youth.

On getting the news, MOROBOSHI has already teleported onto the roof of building in Kabuki-cho.  The other alien crawling away is shedding green blood.  The liquid leads to an aged multi-tenant structure of 9 stories, which is not used but left without being demolished.    The elevator is, of course, out of order, so DAN has to climb the emergency stairs.  He finds some things approaching quietly.  The next moment, he is surrounded by soldier insects, which Ultra Beam  quickly overturns one after another.  

Getting to the 8th floor, DAN finds a lot of woman laid there, on whom great amount of green slime is being cultivated by worker insects.  Each insect plays each role.  This is the very human farm.  When recognizing DAN, the workers disappear in all directions like baby spiders.

The whole 9th floor looks like a cocoon made up of green slime.  At the center is a queen BURACO blinking in green and laying eggs one by one out of its mouth, to the rhythm of breath.  The alien queen stays unmoved at MOROBOSHI.  This is because it instinctively concentrates on its own eggs.  Struck by Ultra Beam, the mother alien has stopped breathing and turned color from green to red.  At the same time, its red body liquid begins to dissolve green slime, and all the rest of aliens get dried up.

Then, SOMA has just arrived at the building. 
"MOROBOSHI, too early!  You've already solved the problem, haven't you?"
"Thanks to your sniping, I've got here.  This red liquid might be able to save the patients." 
"Yes.  Talk to Professor."
The liquid gradually cures all the woman in the building, who has come back to themselves.  YURI and other patients will get well soon.

"Unearthly incident, isn't it?"
SOMA claps his hands to kill a mosquito.

(Certainly, we have just exterminated kind of insect.  Based on a different point of view, aliens BURACO might have tried to survive, like animals and plants.  You don't like a mosquito, 'cause it get your blood.  And easily kill it without thinking about anything.  The larger thing it is, the more guilty you will feel.  But the importdnt thing is that even a worm will turn.  Regardless of the size or the species, nothing else is so impotant as LIFE.  The LIFE is equal, isn't it?)

(Nature is a world where the stronger prey upon the weaker, which are distined to disappear.  Is it because they are strong that humans raise live stock?  If there appeared something stronger than humans, what would become of them?)

"In the future, near or far, humans might be raised in stock farm."
"Nonsense.  What do you mean, MOROBOSHI?"
SOMA is about to clap his hands to kill the second mosquito.
