Long March in 3 minutes

画像2

The Long March is a Chinese launch vehicle for transferring the satellite.
Chinese launch technology, which had originally evolved as a military, has been used for commercial launches like the United States and the Soviet Union, and the state-owned enterprise, China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC), under the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), plays the role (management).
The Long March family launched by CGWIC.

Chinese startup giant leap

Recently, Chinese space exploration is accelerating rapidly, with a number of space startups founded.

For example, according to the above article, Link Space succeeded in sub-orbital flight, Land Space, which develops launch vehicle for satellite, and iSpace (different from ispace in Japan) launched Chinese first commercial launch.

In addition, there are a number of rocket startups such as Zhuhai Orbita Aerospace Science & Technology and Galaxy Space which develops launch vehicle for small satellite.

In addition, on January 3 2019, space industry was buzzing with news that the lunar rover "Chang'e 4" launched by the Long March 3B successfully landed on the backside of the moon for the first time in history.

History of the development of the Long March family

The Long March family supports Chinese space development.
39 missions carried out by China as of 2018 (2 times 2017), 37 missions have been using the Long March.

February 1970, China proceeded the development of the Long March family after Long March 1 launch, which transfers the satellite "Dong Fang Hong 1".
In October 2003, the Long March 2F loaded a manned spacecraft "Shénzhōu wǔ hào" was launched, and succeeded in the world's third manned space flight after the Soviet Union and the United States.

Long March 3B specifications

The Long March 3B and 3B / E (enhanced 3B) launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan are around 54m in height (56m for 3B / E), 3.35m in diameter, and around 425t in weight (458t for 3B / E) are three-stage launch vehicle.

It can transfer a payload of 12000 kg to LEO and 2000 kg to GEO, and is used for launching communication satellites as a high-spec heavy launch vehicle.

Light and Darkness of the Long March development

The long march has been brilliantly active, but occurred significant accidents during its development.

In particular, during the first flight of the Long March 3B in 1996, there was an accident of falling and exploding immediately after launch.

In 2016, operations from the inland launch site to the Wenchang Satellite Launch Site facing the East China Sea has been started in 2016.
Since the east side is the sea, the risk of the launch vehicle falling has been reduced more than before (the launch vehicle is usually launched to the east side).
The number of launches for the Long March 3 series has now reached a total of 100 times, and has reached a total of 300 times with overcoming above difficulties.

New Long March

Currently, new Long March model is under development.
In particular, the Long March 9 is a large one that has been developed for future missions such as manned lunar exploration and deep space exploration.
It is around 100m high, 9.5m in diameter, and 5m in diameter of the side booster.

There are many challenges surrounding Chinese space exploration.
Chinese space exploration will be continued to further dimension while facing a number of challenges, such as how to develop space science activities, how to generate originality, and legislation for commercial space activities.

It seems that one of the challenges of Chinese space exploration is that it is said to be "the same thing that the Soviet Union and the United States have done".

However in any case (according to the news and articles that can be confirmed from Japan, etc.), there is no doubt that Chinese space exploration, which has been driven by space powers as its slogan, is making a giant leap.

Although there are countries where programs can be proceeded from the top down, I would like to think about what each country can do by utilizing their resources to advance the earth's space exploration better as an individual.
