静岡に住んでいると一度は行ったことがある名勝、日本平。ガイドとして外国人のお客様をよくご案内する風光明媚な場所です。

Nihondaira Part1

日本平　パート１

Nihondaira literally means ‘ a plateau of Japan.’

日本平は文字通り「日本の台地」を意味します。

Nihondaira refers to a summit of Mt. Udo, which is located in Shizuoka City with an altitude of 307meters.

日本平は有度山の山頂を指します。静岡市にあり、標高は307メートルで
す。

The summit forms a plateau where visitors can enjoy a nice 360-degree panoramic view, especially Mt.Fuji.

その山頂が台地のなっていて、来た人々は360度のパノラマを堪能できます。中でも富士山が一番です。

It is said that ‘Nihondaira’ was named after a legendary hero, ‘Yamato Takeru’, who is featured in the Japanese mythology.

「日本平」は伝説のヒーロー「ヤマトタケル」にちなんで名づけられたと言われています。ヤマトタケルは日本神話に登場します。

The Japanese mythology is related to real history, however it also contains many mythological stories.

日本神話は実際の歴史と関連しますが、多くの神話の物語も含んでいます。

According to the myth, Yamato Takeru was so brave but had a violent temper, which led him to accidentally kill his older brother.

神話によると、ヤマトタケルはたいそう勇敢でしたが血気盛んな性格でした。その気性のせいで誤って彼の兄を殺してしまいました。

His father, the Emperor Keiko (the 12th Emperor) got so furious.

父である12代天皇、景光天皇は激怒しました。

The emperor exiled him out of the capital and ordered him to go to the eastern part of Japan to defeat enemies of the Yamato Dynasty.

天皇は彼を追放し、ヤマト朝廷の敵を倒すべく日本の東方へ行くよう命じました。

His aunt, Yamatohime, took pity on him and gave him a special sword called ‘Kusanagi-no-tsurugi.’

彼の叔母であるヤマトヒメは彼のことをかわいそうに思い、特別な剣である「草薙の剣」を与えました。

While he was traveling the eastern part of Japan, he was lured to a large field and surrounded by fire ignited by local people.

日本の東方を旅している時、広い野原におびき出され、地元の人々がつけた火に囲まれてしまいました。

He was in a desperate situation, but to his surprise, he was able to cut all the burning grass with his special sword and finally extinguished the fire.

絶体絶命の状況でした。しかし驚くべきことに、彼はその特別な剣で燃えさかる草をすべて切り、ついにはその火を消してしまったのです。
