日本神話には深い意味があり、国の成り立ちを考えた時、本当はもっと学びたい内容です。清水区には日本神話に関連した歴史的箇所がいろいろあります。日本平もその一つです。ちなみに地名としては「にほんだいら」ですが、ホテル名は「にっぽんだいらホテル」です。

日本平 パート２

The plateau where Yamato Takeru extinguished the fire is said to have been named "Nihondaira" after him, bearing the legacy of his name.

ヤマトタケルが火を消したその台地は彼の名にちなみ、「日本平」と名づけられたと言われています。彼の名前の伝説を伝えています。

Yamato is another name for Japan.

ヤマトは日本を表すもう一つの名前です。

The sword that he used in cutting the burning grasses is called ‘Kusanagi-no-tsurugi’, which literally means ‘Grass-Cutting Sword’

彼が燃える草を切った時に使った剣は「草薙の剣」と言われています。それは「草を刈る剣」の意味です。

Upon hearing the story, Shizuoka residents would immediately recognize a specific area associated with this story.

その話を聞くとすぐに、静岡に住んでいる人々はこの話に関係する特定の地区を思い出します。

There is an area called ‘Kusanagi’ in Shimizu Ward and another one is the JR Kusanagi station.

清水区には「草薙」と呼ばれる地区があり、またJR草薙駅もあります。

In ancient times, this sword, Kusanagi-no-tsurugi was offered to Kusanagi Shrine, which is located on the foot of the northern side of Mt.Udo.

古代、この草薙の剣は草薙神社に奉納されました。この神社は有度山の北側の麓にあります。

Being one of the Three Sacred Treasures of Japan, Kusanagi-no-tsurugi used to be carefully housed there.

草薙の剣は三種の神器の一つであり、かつてはこの神社に置かれていました。

In 686, this sword was moved to Atsuta Shrine in present-day Nagoya.

686年、この剣は現在の名古屋にある熱田神宮に移されました。

Even now, this sacred sword is housed in this Shinto shrine as one of the Three Sacred Treasures of Japan.

今でもこの神聖な剣は三種の神器の一つとしてこの神社に保管されています。

As a remembrance of this legend, a statue of Yamato Takeru is standing near the Nippondaira Hotel.

この伝説を忘れぬよう、ヤマトタケルの像が日本平ホテルの近くに立っています。
