桜の花が満開のこの時期、実は桃の花も見頃です。晴れたこの日、静岡市駿河区長田地区に行ってきました。

Peaches in the Osada Area　Part1

長田の桃　パート1

The Osada area in Shizuoka City is a good production site of peaches.

静岡市の長田地区は桃の良い産地です。

Peach blossoms are blooming now.

桃の花が今咲いています。

Shizuoka is famous for Japanese green tea and mandarin oranges.

静岡は日本茶とミカンが有名です。

Peaches from Osada, however, have a long history as well.

しかし長田の桃も同様に長い歴史があります。

It was recorded that the cultivation started around 1897 (the 30th year of the Meiji period).

1897年（明治30年）ごろその収穫は始まったと記録があります。

There are about 100 peach　farms in this area, which is near Suruga Bay.

この地区にはおよそ100件ほどの桃農家が駿河湾の近くにあります。

Peaches from Osada are harvested the earliest in Japan because this area has long exposure to sunlight and a mild climate.

長い日照時間と穏やかな気候のため、長田の桃は日本で一番早く収穫されます。（露地栽培の場合）

The harvest season begins in early June.

収穫時期は6月初旬に始まります。

Compared with other production sites, it is a month earlier, so the price is a bit expensive.

他の産地と比べて、ひと月早いので、値段も少し高めです。

In Tokyo, this peach is sold for 500 yen per piece due to its high quality.

東京ではその高品質のため、この桃は1個500円で販売されます。

However, some local farmers directly sell peaches to Shizuoka locals in the peak season at a reasonable price.

しかしピークの時期に静岡の地元の人々に直接お値打ち価格で売っている農家さんもいます。
