先日、店で、ハンバーガーを食べていた。

近くの席の、高齢の女性客が、店員さんと話し込んでいた。
どうやら、買ったフライドポテトが、いつもよりしょっぱかったらしい。
店員さんが、代わりのポテトを持ってきて、謝っていた。
その客はなじみの客らしく、それで一段落かな、と思ってみていた。

すると、その隣の席の若い男性客が、自分のポテトも塩辛かった、とその店員に言った。
「もう食べてしまったし、代わりのポテトはいらないです」
「前に食べた時はそれほど塩辛くなかった。辛さを一定にしてほしい」
サラリーマンらしい表現だ。

私も、その経験はあるので、気持ちはよくわかる。
揚げたポテトに、塩を含む調味料をふりかける作業は、今でも人がやっているので、量のばらつきがあるのだろう。
将来、この作業は自動化されるだろうか。

件の店員は、店長を連れてきて、二人してひざまづいて、その客に謝っていた。客を見下ろさないようにするためだと思うが、ちょっとやりすぎな感じを持った。

そのポテトの塩分量を、サイトで見た。
Mサイズで0.8gとなっている。
私としては、客が塩分量を自分好みに調整できればいいと思う。

ところで、私が食べたハンバーガーも、しょっぱかった。
これの塩分は3.2gだった。
「ソルト&レモン」とちゃんと書かれているのだが、注文の時に見落としていた。
わざわざソルトと書くくらいだから、そういうものなのだろう。でも「塩」と書いてあればたぶん注文しなかった。

Can the amount of salt in fried potato sticks served at hamburger shops be standardized?

The other day, I was eating a hamburger at a store.

An elderly female customer sitting nearby was talking to the staff. Apparently, the fries she ate were saltier than usual. The clerk brought her a replacement set of fries and she apologized. The customer seemed to be a familiar customer, so I thought things would settle down.

Then, a young male customer sitting next to her told the waiter that his fries were too salty.
"I've already eaten it and I don't need another potato."
"The last time I ate it, it wasn't that salty. I wish the spiciness would be constant."
It's an expression typical of Japanese office workers.

I've had that experience myself, so I understand how he feels. Sprinkling seasonings, including salt, on fried potatoes is still done by a person even now, so the amount may vary. Will this task be automated in the future?

The store clerk brought the store manager with her, and they both knelt down and apologized to the customer. I think it's to avoid looking down on the customers. I felt like they didn't have to go that far.

I looked at the website for the salt content of the fried potatoes. The size M is 0.8g. Personally, I think it would be nice if customers could adjust the amount of salt to their taste.

By the way, the hamburger I ate was also salty. The salt content of this was 3.2g. It was clearly written as "Salt & Lemon", but I overlooked it when ordering. Since it was written as salt, I thought to myself that it must be salty. But if it had written "塩" on it,  I probably wouldn't have ordered it.
