Q1.Please tell me about yourself

Hello there! My name is Sarath Asoka! I'm from India and graduated in mechanical engineering from IIT Hyderabad. I currently work as a control system engineer at Spiral Inc.
Ever since I was a kid, I loved watching sci-fi movies and dreamt about a world with robots. This interest, combined with my passion for building things, led me to explore the exciting field of robotics.
Growing up  in a family without any engineers, I became the go-to person for fixing things. Although I may have broken a few beyond repair, opening up appliances and understanding how they work has fuelled my curiosity. This led me to pursue mechanical engineering for my bachelor's and later a master's in mechanics and design.
During my studies, I came across a senior working on a humanoid robot, and that experience made me fall in love with robotics. Since then, introducing my own small robots to the world.
Aside from robotics, I enjoy reading fiction novels, watching movies, photography, and, as you may have guessed, travelling. Whether through books, or actual journeys, I find joy in exploring new places.

Q2.Why do you want to work here? What interests you about this role?

Two things really caught my eye about working here. First, the idea of being in a drone-based company is super exciting. Drone technology is growing, especially in research, and being part of that evolving field is just amazing. Working with drones would be like being in the middle of all the action, and that's something I'm really into. Also, diving into a career in robotics engineering is a big deal for me. It's all about being creative and coming up with ideas for unique problems. The second reason is my soft spot for Japan. I've known Japan since forever, from anime to being a powerhouse of top-notch tech. In India, Japanese products are considered the gold standard for quality, whether it's cars from Toyota or music systems from Sony. So, the idea of working in the land of the finest tech is like a dream come true for me.

Q3.What motivates you? Please also tell us your work goals.

What truly motivates me is seeing my creation come to life and seeing it in the real world. On a personal level, this is my ultimate driving force. In terms of work goals,I aspire to become a leading expert in robotics, recognized for my work.  But it's not just about being the best; I want to inspire others too, just like how I was inspired by.

Q4.How do you like the working environment at Spiral?

Working at "Spiral Inc," a startup, has been fantastic because I get to connect with everyone in the company. What's cool is that I'm not stuck only in my area of expertise. I've had the chance to explore different fields of both hardware and software, which has been a really great experience for me.Since the majority of employees are from different countries and the fact that our working language is English makes it super easy for me to express my thoughts and ideas without any major challenges.

Q5.Is studying at Japanese language school fun?

Yes, it's amazing. Before I started school, I tried learning Japanese on my own. It was a bit tough and sometimes even boring. But once I joined school, things got way more exciting. I've got friends in my class who are learning at the same level as me. We practise speaking in our broken Japanese with each other and learn together. The teachers are super nice too. They always understand where we're coming from and encourage us to speak more Japanese. It's a supportive and motivating environment.
