さをり織りってご存じですか？

１９６９年に城みさをさんという方が始めました。それまでは織物は「均一で整っているもの」でした。1本糸が抜けた、ほつれた、切れた、そういうものは傷とされ商品になりませんでした。
ですが、城みさをさんはその傷の味わいに注目しました。
これは傷ではなく個性なのではないか、もっと個性を引き出して織りたい。
そうして織られた反物が「これは面白い」と高く評価され、そこから決まりのない自由な織り「さをり織り」が生まれました。

さをり織りは心を織る織物だといわれています。
糸が抜けたりからまったりしてもいいので、小さな子供でも、手足に障害のある方でも織ることができます。その糸の抜けや、ときには団子状になった糸が織りの独特なアクセントになります。

またどのような糸でも織ることができます。
技術的に正解がなく、また失敗もない、どんな方でも織ることができるのがさをり織りです。

城みさをさんの「さをり四つの願い」というのがあります。
「１、機械と人間の違いを考えよう
２、思い切って冒険しよう
３、キラと輝く目をもとう
４、グループの皆で学ぼう 」

私はこの「機械と人間の違いを考える」というのが、とても気に入っています。さをり織りの名前もこの「差異を織る」からきているのです。

織りながら考えます。

私にしか出来ないことはなんだろう？私がしたいことは何だろう？
さをり織りは、遥かな自己探求の世界でもあります。

What's Saori-weaving?

Have you ever heard of Saori-weaving?
It was started by a person named Misao Jo in 1969. Until then, textiles were "uniform and neat," and a single loose thread, a frayed thread, or a break was considered a blemish, so they were not allowed to be sold.
However, Misao Jo noticed the charm of these scratches.
She thought these scratches is not blemish, this is individuality.
She wanted to weave with more individuality.
She wanted to bring out more individuality.

Saori-weaving is said to be a fabric that weaves the heart.
That is not denied the loose thread, even small children and people with disabilities can weave. The loose and doughy yarns make a unique accent to the weave.
You can also weave with any yarn.
There is no correct answer technically and no failure, and anyone can weave Saori-weaving.

Misao Jo advocated "Four Wishes of Saori-weaving".

1. Think about the difference between machine and human.
2. Let's take the plunge!
3. Don't forget sparkle of curiosity!
4. Let's learn together as a group.

I really like this "thinking about the difference between machines and humans". The name "Saori-weaving" comes from this "weaving the difference".
