アドベント４日目の朝はとても気持ちのよい晴天でした。
　リベカは起き抜けにアドベントカレンダーを開けて、出てきたチョコレートを慌てて口に放り込みました（ちなみにリベカのアドベントカレンダーは、お父さん手作りのノアの方舟形のものです。扉の中にお母さんお手製の焼き菓子や市販のお菓子を詰め込みます）。
　口の中に溶け出すチョコレートは、とても甘くてリベカのほっぺたをうっとりさせましたが、その後、だんだん後悔の気持ちがわき上がってきたのです。
　それはなぜでしょう。
　リベカはよくよく分かっていました。フクロウのガブリエルに今日もお菓子をあげるのがとても嫌だったのです。だから急いで食べてしまいました。でも何だか胸がいがいがします。
「リベカ、朝ご飯ですよ」
　お母さんが呼んでいます。リベカは、はいと返事をして台所へ向かいました。ガブリエルは朝ご飯を食べているかなあと考えながら。

The sky was clear and soothing on the morning of the fourth day of Advent.
As soon as she woke up, Rebecca opened the Advent calendar and quickly popped the chocolate in her mouth. It was very sweet and tasted so good in her mouth. But after she ate it, she started feeling regret.
Why was this?
Rebecca knew exactly why. She really didn’t want to give the chocolate to Gabriel the owl, and that’s why she ate it so quickly. She felt an uncomfortable feeling in her chest.
“Time for breakfast, Rebecca,” called her mother.
“Coming,” said Rebecca, and headed toward the kitchen, wondering if Gabriel was eating breakfast.
