あんまりウサギの耳が長いから　
なんだかタヌキは困ってしまう。

「ウサギさん、ぼくの鼓動が聞こえますか？」

その長い耳を折りながら　
ウサギは恥ずかしそうにうなずく。

「ええ、大きな音がするわ。
　それに････」

「他にも聞こえるのですか？」
「ええ。ネズミの骨がきしむ音とか」

「僕がネズミを食べたこと、なぜ、ご存知ですか？」

「あなた、よく噛まないで飲み込んだでしょ？」
ウサギはタヌキから目をそらす。

「さっきまで、鳴き声が聞こえていたわ」

「まいったなあ」
タヌキはウサギを見つめる。

「まったく、じつにまいってしまうなあ」

「タヌキさん、そろそろ失礼します」
ウサギはあわてて立ち上がる。

「わたくし、帰らせていただきます」

「ウサギさん、待ってください」
タヌキはウサギの細い前足をつかむ。

「ぼくの筋肉の音は聞こえますか？」

あんまりタヌキの筋肉がすごいので　
なんだかウサギは諦めてしまう。
　

Rabbit and Raccoon Dog

The raccoon dog is in trouble
because the ears of rabbits are so long.

"Rabbit, can you hear my heartbeat?"

Folding its long ears, the rabbit nodded shamefully.

"Yes, there's a loud noise. And..."

"Can you hear anything else?"
"Yes. The sound of rat bones squeaking."

"Why do you know I ate a rat?"

"You swallowed it without chewing well?"
The rabbit turned away from the raccoon dog.

"I could hear the cry until a while ago."

"I'm sorry."
Raccoon dog gazes at a rabbit.

"Well, I'm really sorry."

"Raccoon dog, I'm sorry."
The rabbit stands up in a hurry.

"I will go home."

"Please wait, Rabbit."
The raccoon dog grabbed the rabbit's thin forefoot.

"Can you hear the sound of my muscles?"

The raccoon's muscles are so great that
the rabbit somehow gives up.
