昨夜ひっそり雪が降ったため　
舗装道路は滑りやすくなっている。

坂道の途中ではなおさらだ。

しばらく目の前を歩いていた婦人を　
今やっと追い越したばかり。

積雪が奇妙な黄土色をしていたので　
屈んで少し掻き集めてみた。

ヌルヌルしていて全然雪らしくない。
柔らかいゴムのようにいくらでも伸びる。

その雪の塊を片手に持って　
グルグルと頭上で振りまわしてみる。

まるでヘリコプターのプロペラみたいだ。

きっと追い越したばかりの婦人が背後で
怪訝そうな顔して見上げていることだろう。

そうこうしつつ前方をチェックすると　
短いスカートの女子高生たちが　
坂の上からこちらへ下りてくるところ。

視線を足もとに落とし、まぶたが丸い。
普段見せないような真剣な表情。

滑って転ぶんじゃないかと不安なのだ。

転ぶ姿を見たい気持ちもないわけではないが　
いつもそんな表情をしていればいいのに、と思う。

その方が、ううんと魅力的なのに。
　

Ocher Snow

with a suspicious face behind me.

from the top of the hill.
