An associate sent me a few basic questions on post-editing (PE) after reading my last post on the Japanese translation market.

Understandably, my associate seems to feel threatened by the growing use of machine translation (MT). But not all subjects are suitable for MT and there are all levels of PE from light PE to full PE. For those who want to gain some background knowledge on MT and PE, SDL Limited (now a part of the RWS Group) offers a free course provided that you are a license holder of Trados, a leading CAT tool. The course I took is called “SDL Post Editing 2019 Translators”, the contents of which is in all likelihood still valid.
