安らかに眠ってください 過ちは繰返しませぬから

広島原爆死没者慰霊碑に記されている碑文がタイトルとされるこの作品は、過ぎ去った年の回数分、額に入れられ再撮されたモニュメントの写真シリーズの一枚である。2015年に制作された本作品は、70回この慰霊碑の写真の撮影が繰り返された。撮影を繰り返すごとに、慰霊碑の文字や形は抽象的な影となり、現在の私たちと歴史との距離を映し出す。複製により終わりなく変化し続けるイメージは、私たちにコメモレイションとは何かと問いかける。私たちは写真から何を思い起こすことが出来るであろうか。

Let all the souls here rest in peace ; For we shall not repeat the evil

The title of this series comes from the inscription of the Hiroshima Memorial Monument for Peace. In the series, the number of framed photographs of the monument corresponds to the number of years that have passed since the tragic event. This was produced in 2015, a photo was taken 70 times, each one corresponding with the year that had passed. The inscription and shape of the monument turned more abstract with each shooting, which is a reflection of how distant the past is to us living today. The reproduction of this work makes us think of constant change, and redefines the definition of “to commemorate”. Does the photograph enable us to recall anything?
