The Space of Appearance

公共空間には、様々なニーズを目的としたデザインがあり、時には別の意図をカモフラージュさせて作られたものもある。私たちは気に留めることもなくそういったデザインを利用しているかもしれない。しかし異なる立場や状況にたってそのデザインに触れた時、今まで見えてこなかった景色が見えて来る。不確実性の時代においてよりその重要性が浮き彫りになっていくであろう。公共空間は今どうなっているのだろうか。作品から公共空間のデザインのあり方を問いかける。

Public spaces are designed with some apparent purpose in mind, while the purpose of other spaces’ designs are camouflaged. We may unconsciously spend time in a space with designs that have hidden intentions. In the case of using the design in a different position or situation from usual, another purpose of the design is highlighted. In times of uncertainty, the importance of such designs will be more apparent than ever. What about the design of public spaces at the moment? This work asks one to ponder the deep meaning of public space design.
