I only wish I had been born 15 years later

Now I’m getting rather old, but I have never reminisced, for example, my high school days, or my first year of work. I don't feel like starting anything all over again.

However, I only wish I had been born 15 years later. This is completely different from the thought, “If only I were a little younger now”.

It is not a desire to cope with the current environment at a younger age, but an unfulfilled wish to have been able to deal with the environment of that time at a younger age.

I am now speaking of computers and the Internet.

I am really into computers and the Internet, but computers appeared too late in my life. I grew up in an age before PCs and cell phones.

I bought my first computer when I was 37 years old. It was just before the internet boom came and everyone started buying them, so the timing was not too late. However, at 37 years old, I was a little late in the game.

I wish I was 22 when I got my first computer. I could have been more proficient in computer knowledge. I might have been able to obtain some qualifications and my life would have been somewhat different.

I was 49 years old when my hopes were fulfilled, and I was transferred to the Internet-related section of the broadcasting station I worked for.

But I had already become a manager, a department head. In a managerial position, nothing was interesting for me, even though I was engaged in a department that builds websites and mobile sites.

Only if I had been 34 years old, I think I would have enjoyed doing much more practical work in the field.

I was 59 years old and close to retirement when the company began full-fledged program streaming.

If I had been 44 years old, when I was in my heyday as a “salaryman”, I might have been able to utilize my knowledge, experience, and ideas more in daily work.

I can’t stop thinking about this and that.

Well, I know there is no point in dwelling on such things. But I still feel disappointed when I look back at my love of the Internet and my continual contact with computers since my late thirties.

I wish I had been born 15 years later! Or I should say I wish computers had been available 15 years earlier! This thought is endless.

But the only good thing is that thanks to my earlier familiarity with computers than my peers, I have not been left behind in the IT age as I have gotten older.

I don't think I will have much trouble in the future, even if new technologies keep emerging.

I wonder if this is at least a reward for my time invested in using them. Or perhaps it is a gift that I have been able to enjoy the Internet rather than being reluctant to use it.

Whatever the case may be, the Internet is fun. That much is certain.
