instagramに投稿した、こちらのテーブル(マイケル・マリオット / XL-1-2 Kit Table)のモデルをどのようにしてつくったか、そしてDIYでつくる時にどのような部材が必要かを紹介する。

I will write how I made the model of this table (Michael Marriott / XL-1-2 Kit Table) that I posted on Instagram, and which materials you should prepare when making it by yourself.

作品について / About the table

製作者のマイケル・マリオットは、1963年生まれのイギリスのデザイナー。RCA (英国王立芸術大学院)を卒業後、家具のデザインスタジオを設立した。
デザインの対象は家具のほかにも、ブックエンド等のプロダクトやインスタレーション、展覧会の会場構成と多岐に渡る。日本に向けては、東日本大震災後に「地域のものづくりの場」として誕生したブランド、石巻工房の商品のデザインをするなどしている。
そんな彼が、RCAの卒業制作として作ったのが、XL-1 Kit Chair。後にこの椅子のためにデザインされたのが、XL-1-2 Kit Tableとのことだ。
足が細くてかっこいい。。ほしい！

Michael Marriott, the designer of the table, was born in 1963. After he graduated from RCA (Royal College of Art), he established a furniture design studio.
His designs range from furniture to products such as bookends, installations, and venue layouts for exhibitions. For something related to Japan, he designed products for Ishinomaki Kobo, which was born as a shop and place “for local craftsmanship” after the huge earthquake in 2011.
He made the XL-1 Kit Chair as his graduation project for RCA. The XL-1-2 Kit Table was later designed for this chair.
The proportion of the legs are so attractive!

3Dモデルのつくり方 / How to make the 3D model

XL-1-2 Kit Tableは、Web Shop BYTRICO等で購入することができるが、残念ながら現在は完売とのこと。今回は、その商品画像を参照してモデルを作成した。

XL-1-2 Kit Table is sold at Webshop BYTRICO, but unfortunately it is currently sold out. So, I created a model by referring to the product image.

商品サイトから得られた情報は以下の通り。

• 全体の寸法：幅750*奥行750*高さ740mm

• 材料：フィンランドバーチ(天板)、ナラ(脚)、スチール(金具)

• 仕上げ：クリア塗装仕上げ(木部)、OD(アーミーグリーン)塗装仕上げ(金具)

木材の厚みや脚の角度、金具の取り付け位置等は、スケッチブックに図面を描きながら決めていった。天板は厚さ25mm、脚と幕板は厚さ13mmと、ホームセンターで材料が揃いそうな寸法を設定。それ以外は、完全に目分量。。紙に描いてみたりモデルで入力してみたりしながら、微調整をしていった(図面参照)。

• Dimensions: W750*D750*H740mm

• Material: Finnish birch (top plate), oak (legs), steel (metal fittings)

• Finishing: Clear paint finish (wooden part), olive drab paint finish (metal fittings)

I decided on the thickness of the wood, the angle of the legs, the position of the metal fittings, etc. while drawing sketches. The top plate is 25 mm thick, and the legs and curtain plate are 13 mm thick.
Other than that, it's completely guesswork. I made fine adjustments while drawing on paper and inputting as a model.

ただし強度の検討などしていないため、ぐらぐらしてしまっても責任は負いません。
