日増しに暖かくなってきましたが、みなさんいかがお過ごしでしょうか。私は花粉症がひどいので基本引きこもっています。

　さて、しばらく投稿していなかったので久々の記事を書いています。先日は卒業式があったので、大学は何となくバタバタした雰囲気でした。そんな中、私は逆に担当の学生がいませんので、ただただ式典に参加して記念撮影に収まって、さっさと研究室に引き上げてしまいました。今回の卒業式は私が担当した学生が少なかったので、あまり感情移入できずルーティン作業での対応になってしまったのです。あるいは毎年卒業式で出席しているので、慣れてきていることも原因かもしれません。いずれにせよ今回卒業のした学生の多くは、恐らく二度と会うことがない人たちだと自分の中では思っています。

　その後、オープンキャンパスがありもう新年度の次の年度に向けての動きがスタートしました。私は久しぶりに模擬授業を担当しましたが、ゼミ生が参加してくれていたので、高校生とディスカッションする機会を設けて対話中心の授業を展開しました。模擬授業はわずか３０分程度なのですが、大学生たちが高校生たちをどんどんリードしていく姿をみて、「大学生って凄いなぁ。」と思ってくれたのではないかと高校生の表情を見ていて感じました。同時に保護者の方も一緒に参加していますので、私は保護者向けにも学生たちの姿をアピールするようにしています。つまり、うちで預からさせてもらえればこんな立派な学生に成長できますよということを学生の姿を見ていただくことによってイメージしてもらうのです。

　何人かの保護者さんから早速受験しますとのお声をいただきました。確かにカリキュラムの内容や施設の充実度が大学を選んでもらう要素の１つではあると思いますが、私が勤めている弱小地方大学ではどちらの面でも大手にはかないません。そこで、私は人に焦点を当てています。つまり、それはうちの学生がいかにキラキラした存在に見えるかということです。お陰様でうちのゼミ生はかなり輝いた存在に見えるようです。オープンキャンパスは学生によって運営されるのですが、今回は半分以上がうちのゼミ生が担当していました。こんな風に私の思いが少しずつ周りに伝わって学生が輝く様子を見ると、改めて大学教員になってよかったなぁと思いました。

　これから少子化で大学の運営ますます厳しくなります。しかし学生がキラキラしている大学であればむしろ多くの人に支持されて生き残っていくのだと私は最近確信しています。大学教員をこれから目指す人は一人でも二人でもキラキラ輝く学生の成長に貢献したい人がなってほしいと思います。

Radiance.

It's getting warmer day by day. How's everyone doing? My hay fever is so bad that I basically stay home.

Well, I haven't posted for a while, so I'm writing an article for the first time in a while. There was a graduation ceremony the other day, so the university was kind of busy. In such a situation, I had no student in charge, so I just participated in the ceremony, took a commemorative photograph, and went back to the laboratory. I didn't have many students in charge of this graduation ceremony, so I couldn't empathize with them and had to deal with them through routine work. Or maybe it's because I attend the graduation ceremony every year, so I'm getting used to it. In any case, I believe that many of the students who graduated this time are people I will never see again.

After that, there was an open campus, and the movement toward the next year of the new year has already started. It's been a while since I've been in charge of a trial class, but since the seminar students were participating, I had an opportunity to have a discussion with high school students, and the class focused on dialogue. The trial lesson lasted only about 30 minutes, but seeing the students leading the high school students, I felt that they thought, "College students are amazing.". At the same time, parents participate together, so I try to appeal the students to parents. In other words, by looking at students, they can imagine that they can grow up to be such a great student if they leave their children with us.

Some parents told me that they would take the examination immediately. It's true that the content of the curriculum and the quality of the facilities are one of the factors that make you choose a university, but at the small local college where I work, we can't match the major universities in either way. So I focus on people. I mean, it's how sparkly our students look. Thanks to you, our seminar students look very bright. The open campus is run by students, but this time more than half of them were in charge of our seminar students. When I saw how my thoughts were gradually conveyed to the people around me and how my students were shining, I was glad that I became a university teacher again.

The declining birthrate will make university management more difficult. But I am convinced these days that if a university has a bright student body, it will be supported by many people and survive. I hope that even one or two people who aim to become university teachers will become people who want to contribute to the growth of students who shine.
