昨年12月、ロバート・フィッツ、ビル・ナウリン、ジェームズ・フォーの各氏の編纂した書籍"Nichibei Yakyu: US Tours of Japan"の第1巻がアメリカ野球学会（SABR）から刊行され、私も論文"Declaration of Victory: The Meaning and Achievements of the Stanford University Baseball Team's 1913 Tour"を寄稿しました。

今回は、論文の日本語版草稿のご紹介の第8回目となります。

しかし、実際には、スタンフォード大学は前評判ほどの強さを発揮することはなかった（Table 2）。

スタンフォード大学は3団体と合計11回対戦し、7勝4敗であった。

もちろん、慶應義塾との第3回戦を8対0で勝利し、慶應義塾に「三田野球史が始まって以来の大敗北」[28]を喫せしめ、技量の最盛期を過ぎた選手たちが揃った格下の稲門倶楽部を「予定の通り」[29]破っている。

しかし、勝敗の面では勝ち越したとはいえ、6月1日に行われた慶應義塾との第2回戦では8対3で敗れており、「立派なる三田軍の勝利」と慶應義塾の勝利が称賛されたほどだった[30]。
