今日もなんと言ってもサッカーだろう。昨日、自分はアラームをつけずに寝たら、一度次女に起こされ、夜中の1:30に起きた。その後、また寝て、4:30に自然と目が覚めた。おそらく、ドイツ戦の試合観戦の楽しさを体が覚えていて、それに魅かれて自然と起きたのだろう。起きたら、試合はスペインに一点リードされて、後半に入ろうとしていたところだった。

本田圭佑さんの解説が話題になっていたので、今回はスマホのAbemaTVで布団の中で見ることにした。本田圭佑さんの解説は言われる通り楽しく、どうしてかと考えると、前向きな考えの人で、正直なところがいいのだと感じた。

試合の途中経過を見た瞬間は「やっぱり難しいか」という印象だった。その後の試合結果はご存知の通りだろう。最後スペインが、コスタリカがドイツにリードしている時と違い、ブラジルとしばらく当たらない2位通過を求めて、最後の方は積極的に攻めなかったのではないかと個人的には思った。布団の中で見ると、隣で子供達が寝ていたので、声はださなかったというのは、やはり人は状況によって制御できるのだと思った。

よく考えてみると、このスペイン戦については少し思い入れがあった。と言うのも、自分は、1994年のアメリカワールドカップの頃から、ロベルトバッジョなどに魅了されて、今までずっとイタリア代表のファンであった。その1994年のアメリカワールドカップでイタリアがベスト8で対戦したのがスペインであり、ロベルトバッジョの活躍により、勝利を手にした。

スペインのクラブチームやスペイン代表チームが日本で特に有名になり始めたのは、2000年代中盤から2010年のワールドカップでスペインが優勝した時ぐらいで、その時活躍したイニエスタやシャビが一番馴染みが深い人が多いだろうが、自分にとっては、その1994年のアメリカワールドカップでイタリア代表と対戦した時の主力選手であった、フェルナンド・イエロ、ルイス・エンリケやカミネロと言った選手であった。

90年代初めの当時、イタリアのセリエAは世界最高峰のリーグと言われ、スペインリーグやプレミアリーグを凌いでいた。長い歴史で見れば、各クラブのチャンピオンズリーグの優勝回数を見ても、スペインリーグの方が最高峰と言われるのかもしれないが、当時はセリエAが絶頂期を迎えていた。その後、クラブの財政難もあり、セリエAは世界最高峰の名をスペインリーグやプレミアリーグに譲っていった格好だった。イタリア代表自体は2006年のワールドカップで優勝したり、昨年もユーロで優勝したりと活躍しているが、特にセリエAの没落が激しかったのは、イタリアファンだけに個人的にそれを、歯がゆく感じていた。

イタリア代表にとっては、ドイツ代表やフランス代表が大きなライバルであると思うが、そういった意味で、自分は個人的にもスペインをライバル視していた。

そこで、長い時を経て、今日、ドーハの悲劇によりアメリカワールドカップに出場できなかった日本が、ドーハで、無敵艦隊スペインを破ったのは、自分にとってはドイツ戦の勝利よりも衝撃だったのかもしれない。しかも、スペインの監督はアメリカワールドカップの時に中心選手としてイタリア代表と対峙したルイス・エンリケではないか。

本田圭佑さんが言う通り、シャビやイニエスタなどのスーパースターがいないスペインは全盛期よりも劣ると考えても良さそうだろう。ドイツ代表にも同じことが言えるのかもしれない。そして、だいたい、強豪国が二つ入るグループは荒れる傾向があり、片方の強豪国は敗退する印象がある。

今回、これで2大会連続でワールドカップに出場していないイタリアがいないのは自分にとってはなんとも寂しいが、そういった経緯もあり、イタリアの代わりにあの無敵艦隊スペインを日本が破ったというのは個人的に身震いさせられたのであった。野球も好きだが、サッカーもやっぱり楽しい。

It was sad for me that Italy, which has not participated in two consecutive World Cups, was not in the World Cup this time, but I was personally shaken by the fact that Japan beat the invincible Spanish team instead of Italy. I like baseball, but soccer is fun too, after all.
