”トロントにいる凡人”と申します。😁

現在私はトロントでワーキングホリデーをしており、滞在歴も二年目に突入しました。（ 2022年の10月に渡航してから半年間のCoop留学を経て、そこからワーキングホリデーに切り替えました。）

トロントでの仕事探しってどんな感じ？

ということで、初回は『トロントでのお仕事』に関して。

最近は季節やその他の要因で求人自体少ない状況だと聞きます。

そのうえで、私個人の経験を踏まえ仕事探し(&住まい探し)で重要だと感じたのはズバリ、

『 運とタイミング 』

「へ？」と思う人もいるかもしれませんが、就職に至る過程でこの二つが占める割合はあながち侮れないなと本気で思います。（これに関してはシリーズを追って後に触れますね。）

カナダではその業界における「経験の有無」が重視されることが多いので畑違いの仕事に就くことは至難の業のようですが、実際に挑戦して実現させている人もいるようなので、本当にその人の本気度次第❤️‍🔥なように感じます。

ちなみに私は学生時代にホテルのレストランサーバー、社会人時代は新幹線乗務員🚅として長年接客業に携わってきたので、その経歴を活かせる職に絞って探しました。

実際どうやって探すの？

まず、何と言っても欠かせないのはレジュメ(履歴書)。
これが無いことには何も始まりません。

(場合によってはカバーレター※が必要なこともあります。)

１ページに簡潔に収めることがポイントです。

大抵のお店は毎日のように求職者からレジュメを受け取っているので、酷ではありますが、あまり真剣に取り合ってくれないことも多々あります。

沢山アピールしたくなる気持ちも分かりますが、「シンプルイズベスト」を意識して作ってみてください。

基本的な探し方としては、

・求人サイトや街なかに貼り出されてる求人情報をこまめにチェックし、アプライしまく

・知り合いや友達に紹介してもらう

…の２択がメインになるかと思います。

求人サイトはいくつかありますが、私がチェックしていたのはe-maple(ジャパレスの求人情報が充実しているけど、"変な店"のも多いからそこは要注意！)と、日本でもおなじみのIndeedです。

その他求人サイトが気になった方は調べてみて下さいね。

絶対条件＆優先順位を明確にする！

さて、必要なものと探し方が分かったら、次は自分がどんな環境＆条件下で働きたいのかを明確にしましょう。

特に渡航時は今後の生活やお金に対する不安から「雇ってもらえるならどこでもいい！😫💦」と、焦りを覚える人も多いかと思いますが、最低でも1つ~３つは譲れない条件を設けることをお勧めします。

ちなみに渡航して３か月目にて日本食に飢えていた＆孤独感に苛まれていた当時の私が設定した条件は以下の通りです。

　・高級日本食店(できればお寿司屋さん)
　・チップ率が良いサーバーポジション
　・ドアツードアで30分以内

本来は英語環境で働くことを理想としていましたが、徐々にレベルを上げようと考えていたので、日本語環境であることはあまり気にしませんでした。（その結果、一つも後悔していません。）

なので、自分の心身の状況と海外生活の目的や目標などを踏まえながら積極的に条件を絞って探し、アプライしてみてください。

You might wonder, "Huh?" But, in the process leading to employment, the significance of these two factors is not something to underestimate. (I'll touch on this more in the series later.)

In Canada, the "experience" in the industry is often highly valued, making it challenging to get a job in a different field. However, there are people who have tried and succeeded, so it really depends on the individual's determination. ❤️‍🔥

Personally, I had a background in serving at a hotel restaurant during my student days and worked as a Shinkansen attendant 🚅 during my working years, so I narrowed down my job search to positions where I could utilize that experience.

How do you actually go about it?

First and foremost, a resume is essential. Nothing starts without it. (In some cases, a cover letter may also be required.)

Keeping it concise on one page is the key. Most places receive resumes from job seekers every day, so they might not take them too seriously. It can be tough, but try to create a simple and effective one.

When I was three months into my journey and craving Japanese food while feeling lonely, I set the following conditions:

• High-end Japanese restaurant (preferably a sushi place)

• Server position with a good tip rate

• Within a 30-minute commute door to door

Originally, working in an English-speaking environment was my ideal, but I gradually aimed to improve my skills. So, the fact that it was a Japanese-speaking environment wasn't a big concern. (As a result, I have no regrets about it.)

Therefore, actively narrow down your search based on your mental and physical state, your goals for living abroad, and apply accordingly.

Since it's your precious life and a valuable experience abroad, go ahead and indulge yourself as much as possible! ♪😜💫
