These days, I have come to find the value of e-books. It was when I was studying maths alone that I found it. Since last year's January, I have been studying maths with an English e-book. The book is very easy to read because I can zoom in and out on each page. When I have letters or numbers in the book which are too small to read, I zoom in on the part and can read them much easier. Lately, I have not been able to study maths without it.
The other day, I understood how important the function is to me. It was when I was studying trigonometry that I did it. Trigonometry was so difficult that I could not understand what the English maths book said. So I studied it with a Japanese maths book for high school students. It was more helpful for me to understand trigonometry than the English book. So, I focused on understanding the book for a few days without using the English book. But I found a big problem when I was using it. The letters and numbers in the book were too small for me to read. They were so small that I could not keep reading the book. So, I had to scan each page of the book and read the scanned one on a PC instead of the book. It was much easier than the original book to read. When I had a part which was hard to read in the original size, I zoomed out on the part to read. Once I knew the value, I could no longer study maths with a paper book.
But it is strange to me somehow. I still tend to read a novel or other works on paper since I like the smell of the paper book and have no problem reading the letters for now. In fact, I can place greater focus on reading on paper than with an e-book.
This means I have to use a different book, paper or electronic, depending on what I read. This is exactly what I have done with computers. I have to choose a different computer, PC, iPad or smartphone, depending on what I do with it. It seems to be a long way to do everything in one electronic device.

　最近は、電子書籍のありがたみが分かるようになりました。それに気付いたのは、数学を一人で勉強していたときでした。1月に入ってから、英語の電子書籍で数学を勉強しています。各ページを拡大・縮小できるので、とても読みやすいです。文字や数字が小さくて読みにくいときは、その部分を拡大すると読みやすくなります。最近は、数学の勉強にはこの機能は欠かせません。
　先日、この機能がいかに重要かを感じる時がありました。分かったのは三角関数を勉強していた時です。。三角関数はとても難しく、英語の数学の本に書いてあることが理解できませんでした。そこで、高校生向けの日本語の数学の本で勉強しました。英語の本よりも三角関数を理解するのに役立ちました。そこで、数日間は英語の本を使わずに、この本を理解することに集中しました。でも、使ってみると大きな問題がありました。本の文字や数字が小さすぎて読めなかったのです。あまりに小さすぎて、本を読み続けることができませんでした。そこで、各ページをスキャンし、スキャンしたものを本の代わりにPCで読むことにしました。元の本よりずっと読みやすかったです。元のサイズで読みにくい部分があるときは、その部分を拡大して読みました。このありがたみを知ると、もう紙の本で数学の勉強はできなくなりました。
　でも、これがいくぶん不思議なのです。いまでも、紙の本の匂いが好きだし、文字を読むのも問題はありません。そのため、小説などは今でも紙の本で読むことが多いです。実際、電子書籍よりも紙の本の方が読書に集中できます。
　こうなると、読む本によって紙の本にするか、電子書籍にするかを使い分けなければなりません。これはまさに、コンピューターでやってきたことです。コンピュータは、使い方によって、PC、iPadとスマートフォンを使い分けなければなりません。すべてを一台の電子機器でできるようになるには、まだ、時間がかかりそうです。
