It has been a week since the new fiscal year began. It is also the time for the lovers of a diary or planner to begin to use a new diary or planner. But I have never had the urge to use it in Japan. In the past, I have tried an expensive planner from Time System, a Danish company, which cost about 20,000 yen. But I did not use it at all and threw it away at the end of the year. I had no mind to organize my daily life. Nor did I have so many appointments that I needed to use it. Since then, I have never used it in Japan. Instead, I have organized my daily life with a calendar and a to-do app.
On the other hand, I had used organisers when I was in Europe. I tried the ones from Time System, a Danish company, and Filofax, a British company. As I had a lot of appointments at that time, they were very convenient to organize my schedule. But I stopped using each of them in about a year. I found another way to organise myself. So, overall, I have not enjoyed using a diary or planner.
But I found what was very convenient for me in the organisers. That was the week's numbers. Before I moved to Europe, I had heard about it but had never used it. But I found the numbers in the organizers and tried to use them. I used them to arrange appointments with my European customers. It worked very well with Nordic customers. For example, when I tried to have an appointment on April 8, 1996, I asked if I could have it on Monday of week 15. Then, the customer immediately understood what I wanted to say and said yes. Telling the week number, I did not have to tell the month and date. So I had come to use the number when I had appointments with customers. But it did not work with my non-Nordic customers such as those in France, Spain and Italy. They knew the numbers but did not seem to use them in their daily lives. Europeans are not always the same, but they have their own cultures.

　新年度が始まって1週間。この時期は、手帳好きの人にとっては、新しい手帳やプランナーを使い始める時期でもあります。でも、ボクは、日本では手帳などを使う気になりませんでした。以前、タイムシステムの2万円ほどもする高価な手帳を試したことがありました。でも、まったく使わなかったず、年末に捨ててしまいました。その頃は、日常生活を整理する気などさらさらなかったのです。また、使う必要があるほど多くの予定もなかったのです。それ以来、日本では一度も使っていません。代わりに、カレンダーと　ToDoアプリで日常生活を管理しています。
　一方、ヨーロッパにいた頃は手帳を使ったことがありました。タイムシステムとファイロファックスのものを使ってみました。その当時はアポイントも多かったので、スケジュールを整理するのにとても便利でした。でも、1年ほどで使わなくなりました。別の方法を見つけたからです。そのため、手帳やプランナーを楽しんだことはありませんでした。
でも、プランナーを使っていてとても便利なものを見つけました。週番号です。ヨーロッパに行く前は、週番号の事は聞いたことはありましたが、使ったことはなかったです。
　でも、プランナーで週番号を見つけたので使ってみました。ヨーロッパのお客さんとのアポイントを調整するために使ってみました。そしたら、北欧のお客さんとの場合は、とても有益でした。例えば、1996年4月8日にアポイントを取ろうとしたとき、15週目の月曜日でどうかと尋ねると、お客さんはすぐに私の言いたいことを理解し、イエスと言ってくれました。週番号を使えば、月と日にちを言う必要がありません。それ以来、お客さんとのアポイントを取るときは、この数字を使うようになりました。でも、フランス、スペイン、イタリアなど、北欧以外のお客さんに通用しませんでした。週番号については知っていましたが、日常生活では使っていなかったようです。ヨーロッパの人はみんな同じというわけではなく、それぞれの文化を持っています。
