「浦島太郎」

　昔々、浦島太郎という人がいました。 浦島太郎は、漁師をしていました。ある日、子どもが亀をいじめていたので、浦島太郎は亀を助けました。

　翌日、亀はお礼に浦島太郎を竜宮城に連れて行きました。 竜宮城はとても楽しい場所で、竜宮城にはとても美しい乙姫が住んでいました。

　しばらくして、浦島太郎は家に帰ることにしました。 乙姫は浦島太郎に「玉手箱」をおみやげとして贈りました。 浦島太郎は家に帰りましたが、見知らぬ人ばかりでとても怖がっていました。

　浦島太郎が玉手箱を開けると、箱の中から煙が出てきて、浦島太郎はおじいさんになってしまいました。 こうして浦島太郎は亡くなってしまいました。

Urashima Taro

 Once upon a time, there was a fisherman, Taro Urashima. One day, a child was bullying a turtle, so Taro Urashima helped the turtle.

 The next day, Kame took Taro Urashima to Ryugu Castle as a thank-you. Ryugu Castle is a very fun place, and there was a very beautiful Otohime in Ryugu Castle.

 After a while, Taro Urashima decided to go home. Otohime gave Taro Urashima a "Tamatebako" as her souvenir. Urashima Taro went home, but he was all strangers and he became very scared.

 When Taro Urashima opened the Tamatebako, smoke was generated from inside the box, and Taro Urashima became his grandfather. And Urashima Taro has died.

「かぐや姫」

　むかしむかし、おじいさんとおばあさんがいました。 ある日、おじいさんとおばあさんは光る竹を見つけたので、それを切りました。 竹の中には小さな女の赤ちゃんがいました。

　女の赤ちゃんはとても可愛かったので、おじいさんとおばあさんは、女の赤ちゃんを家に連れて行きました。 おじいさんとおばあさんはその女の赤ちゃんを「かぐや姫」と名付け、かぐや姫を育て上げました。

　かぐや姫はとても美しい女性に成長しました。 そのため、多くの男性がかぐや姫にプロポーズをしました。 ある時、かぐや姫が月を見て泣いていたので、おじいさんがかぐや姫に「どうしたの？」と尋ねました。

　かぐや姫は「次の満月の日には月に帰らなければならないので、おじいさん、おばあさんと別れるのがとても寂しいです」と言いました。

　満月の日になると、空から天女がかぐや姫を迎えに来ました。 かぐや姫は天女とともに月に帰りました。

"Princess Kaguya"(Kaguyahime)

 Once upon a time, there was an old couple. One day, the old couple found a shining bamboo, so they cut it. There was a little baby girl in the bamboo.

 The baby girl was so cute that the old couple took the baby girl to their home. The old couple named the baby girl "Kaguyahime" and raised Kaguyahime.

 Princess Kaguya has grown into a very beautiful woman. As a result, many men proposed to Princess Kaguya. At one point, Princess Kaguya was crying when she saw the moon, so her grandfather asked Princess Kaguya, "What happened?"

 Princess Kaguya said, "On the day of the next full moon, I have to go back to the moon, so it's very sad to break up with my grandfather and grandmother."

 On the day of the full moon, the celestial maiden came to pick up Princess Kaguya from the sky. Princess Kaguya returned to the moon with the celestial maiden.

「桃太郎」

　昔々、おじいさんとおばあさんが住んでいました。 おばあさんが川に洗濯物を干しに行くと、大きな桃が流れてきました。 家で桃を割ると、桃の中に男の子がいました。

　男の子は「桃太郎」と名づけられ、おじいさんとおばあさんに育てられました。 ある日、鬼が宝者を盗みました。 そこで桃太郎は鬼と戦うため、鬼が住む鬼ヶ島に行くことにしました。

　桃太郎はきび団子を犬や猿、キジに渡して仲良くしました。 桃太郎、犬、猿、キジは鬼ヶ島で鬼と戦い、鬼に勝ちました。 桃太郎は無事に宝物を持ち帰ることができました。

"Momotaro"

 A long time ago, an old couple lived. When the grandmother went to the river to do the laundry, a big peach flowed.When I broke the peach at home, there was a baby boy in the peach.

 The baby boy was named "Momotaro" and was raised by an old couple. One day, a demon stole a treasure. Therefore, Momotaro decided to go to Onigashima, where the demons live, in order to fight the demons.

 Momotaro handed the pheasant dumplings to dogs, monkeys, and pheasants, and made them friends. Momotaro, the dog, the monkey, and the pheasant fought and won the demon on Onigashima. Momotaro came home with a treasure.

「笠地蔵」

　むかし むかし、おじいさんと おばあさんが いました。明日は大晦日ですが、食べるものがありませんでした。

　そこで、笠を 街で 売ることにしましたが、誰も 買いませんでした。帰り道、雪が 積もった 六体の お地蔵さんがいたので、売れ残った笠を かぶせました。

　笠は 五個しか ないので、最後の お地蔵さんには、おじいさんの手ぬぐいを かぶせました。

　その話を 聞いて、おばあさんは「良いことを しましたね」と喜びました。食べ物が ないので、二人は 水を飲んで寝ました。

　寝ていると、外から 歌う声が 聞こえてきました。見てみると、お地蔵さんたちが、たくさんの 食べ物を二人の 家まで運んでいました。

　こうして、二人は 幸せな お正月を 迎えることが 出来ました。

Kasa Jizo
 Once upon a time, an old couple lived in a country town. Tomorrow is New Year's Eve and they had nothing to eat.

 So they decided to sell the hats on the street, but no one bought them. On their way back, there were six snow-covered Jizo statues of their on the street, so they covered him with unsold hats.

 However, there were only five hats on the street, so the old man covered his sixth Jizo with his own towel.

 Hearing the story, the old woman rejoiced to her husband, "You have done a good thing for it." But the old couple ran out of food, so they drank water and fell asleep.

 While they were sleeping, they heard singing outside. When they looked outside, they saw Jizo carrying a lot of food to their house.

 Thus, they were able to celebrate their happy New Year.

「耳なし芳一」

　むかしむかし、芳一という 名前の お坊さんが、とても 上手に琵琶を弾きました。ある日、「芳一の 琵琶を 聞きたい」と言う人が、会いにきました。

　芳一は 目が 悪いので、その人に手を引かれ、お屋敷に行きました。そこで琵琶を演奏すると、聞いていた人たちは 感動して泣き出しました。

　同じお寺に住む和尚さんは、芳一が毎日出かけるのを不思議に思いました。和尚さんが芳一の後をついて行くと、和尚さんは墓地に到着しました。

　芳一は、そこで悪い霊たちのために 琵琶を弾いていました。和尚さんは「これは大変だ！」と、芳一の 体 中にお経を書きました。悪い霊たちが 芳一を探しにきましたが、芳一の全身にはお経が書いてあったので、芳一の姿を見つけることができませんでした。

　悪い霊たちには、お経を書き忘れていた芳一の耳だけ見えたので、悪い霊たちは芳一の耳を 引きちぎって、持って帰りました。

　芳一の 耳は なくなってしまいましたが、芳一の琵琶の 演奏は 、以前よりも 上手になりました。

"Hoichi without ears"

 Once upon a time, his monk named Hoichi played the biwa very well. One day, a person came to see him, saying, "I want to hear Hoichi play the biwa."

 Hoichi had bad eyesight, so he led him to the mansion. So he played the biwa, and the listeners were moved to tears.

 A priest(Osho) who lives in the same temple wonders why Hoichi goes out every day. When Osho followed Hoichi, Osho arrived at the cemetery.

 Hoichi was there playing the biwa for the evil spirits. Osho wrote a sutra all over Hoichi's body, saying, "This is terrible!" Evil spirits came looking for Hoichi, but they couldn't find him because sutras were written all over his body.

 The evil spirits could see only Hoichi's ear, which had forgotten to write the sutra, so they tore off Hoichi's ear and took it home.

 Hoichi's ears are gone, but Hoichi's biwa playing is better than before.
