「Japanese-Buzzword」とは

日本には外国人からするとわかり難いけど、よく使われる言葉があります。それを外国でいうなら「スラング」と言います。この言葉をもっと海外の人に伝えるにはどうしたらいいかなと考えていました。

それならば、英語で解説すればいいじゃない、私の英語の勉強にもなるし！

ということで・・・

日本で日常的に使われる流行語を英語で解説するコンテンツを始めたいと思います。わたしはこれを「スラング」ではなく、日常的な「Buzzword」と捉え、「Japanese-Buzzword」としました。

海外の人は日本語の「Japanese-Buzzword」の勉強になり、日本の人は英語の勉強にもなるし、一石二鳥！

第一回目のお題は、「エグい」

ツイッターをいろいろ調べていくと、「えぐい」はこのような時に使うんですね。ショッキングかつ、すごい！と思った時に使うのが主なようです。

では、英語の解説で意味を見ていきましょう。

「エグい」とは

「エグい」egui

meaning: ① cruel　②　horrified ③　shocking

example: 「この健康診断の結果、かなりエグいね」

（This result of this medical check is very shocking.）

explanation：From the Heian era, it means special taste, stimulating the taste of the throat and tongue. Later, it turned to nausea, creepy, cruel, painful and other meanings.

確かに、料理番組などで「この香辛料を入れることによってエグみが取れます」というコメントを聞いたことがあります。

もともとは平安時代に味を表現する言葉だったんですね。勉強になりました。
