Weak link with product

Most Japanese companies contribute to this goal in response to the policy to promote women's participation in the workplace, in link with various initiatives of employee consideration.

However, some companies, albeit in a small number of products, are introducing this goal by linking it to their products. For example, Denka manufactures yarn for women's wigs and hair pieces, aiming to improve the affluence of women's lifestyles that suffer from thin hair.

Citizen Watch combines this goal with automation of manufacturing processes that require special skills in the machine tool business. The aim is to reduce the likelihood that there will be a shortage of people inheriting special skills in the future, but the direct relevance to gender appears to be weak.

Gender consideration is not only for women

At the beginning, I mentioned that there are many Japanese companies that link this goal with efforts to promote women's participation. But gender does not represent women. Gender is a social mind that is used to distinguish it from biological sex. It also includes the consideration of LGBT people who have a difference between the two. Since male dominance has been continued in Japan for a long time in the labor market, increasing the number of opportunities for women is part of gender consideration, but that is not all.

We should also remember that companies must continue to make profits in order to obtain the original capital of their activities in the first place. If women's success contributes to it, we must emphasize it, but in a nutshell, companies do not exist for the purpose of women's participation. I mentioned this point when 30% of the club, an organization that promotes women's participation, has entered Japan.

Last week's Nikkei newspaper also warned of excessive adherence to the SDGs. In the words of the following article, what companies are looking for is activities that increase economic value, and additional social value needs to be raised in the future. It should be noted that social value is not the first.
