英詩のマガジンの本配信、今月3本目です。歌われる詩の2回めです。今回はボブ・ディラン5枚目のアルバム 'Bringing It All Back Home' (1965) に収められた 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' です(「 サブタレニアン・ホームシック・ブルース」)。

多くの先行する文芸の影響が流れ込んでいると同時に、その後のアーティストたちに大変な影響を与えたといわれる歌です。なかでも、ジョン・レノンが、あまりにもこの歌に魅了されて、これに競い得る歌を自分がかけるとは思わないと発言したことが有名です。音楽や文学の歴史を考えるうえでも重要な作品かもしれません。

まとめ

ボブ・ディランの 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' は多くの影響が流れ込み、のちに多くの影響を与えた歌。ロックンロール音楽やビート文学の影響を受けながら、ディランのすぐれた言語感覚が鋭角的に炸裂する歌として、ジョン・レノンやロバート・ワイアットなど多くのミュージシャンに影響を与えている。
