雪の中を通過し掘られたトンネルや高い山、季節限定のスキー、温泉付の旅館によって限定されたこの狭い空間に、一掃されました。

ペースと対話は時々混沌としていましたが、それが逆に全ての事象をさらに完璧にしていました。 島村と駒子の間の緊張感を実感することができましたが、特に、酔っ払った夜の駒子、そして島村の怠惰さが最も顕著でした。 時々、欲求不満ささえ感じてしまいました。 男性と女性の間に形成されるこの動機は何でしょう。 どうしてそんなに残酷なのでしょうか。 欲望、それは僕たちを人生の中で不合理で破壊的な道へと追いやっているようです。 すでに持っているもので満足できないのであれば、一体どうしろというのでしょう。 妻、駒子、そして葉子。

それはすべて炎の中で上がるでしょう、これまでに積もってきた雪によって、抑えられるためだけに。 これは、娯楽の少ない場所でのやり方です。悲しみはいつまでも続くでしょう。

What a book. 

I was swept away to this confined space, defined by its icy tunnels dug through snow, high mountains, seasonal skiing, and resort hot springs.

The pace and the dialogue were confusing at times, but that made it all the more perfect. I could feel the actual strain between Shimamura and Komako. But, especially, the drunken nights Komako all too frequently encountered, as well Shimamura's idleness, were what stood out the most. At times, I felt frustrated. What is this drive that forms between men and women and why is it so cruel? Desire, it seems, was set in place to push us towards unreasonable and destructive paths in life. What's the point if we can't be happy with what we already have? A wife, a Komako, and a Yoko. 
  
It will all go up in flames, only to be subdued by the ever falling snow. This is the way in a place with little for amusement. Sorrow will always persist.
