静岡の名刹である臨済寺。禅寺であるため、普段は公開されていません。しかし年に2回、今川義元公の命日にあたる5月19日、そして摩利支天を祈祷する10月15日には一般公開されます。今年の10月15日は土曜日にあたります。足を運ばれるのはいかがでしょう。こちらは昨年秋の一般公開に伺った時の記事です。

Visiting Rinzai-ji Temple

臨済寺を訪れる

October 15 is an important date at the Rinzai-ji Temple.

10月15日は臨済寺で重要な日です。

Rinzai-ji Temple is only open to the public for two days each year — one day in spring (May 19) and one day in autumn (October 15).

臨済寺は年に2日だけ一般公開をしています。1日は春（5月19日）、もう1日は秋（10月15日）です。

On October 15, Buddhist priests held a special ceremony to pray to Marishiten, a warrior goddess and protector of samurai.

10月15日には、お坊様達が摩利支天を祈祷する特別な儀式を行います。摩利支天とは武士を守る戦いの神様です。

Tokugawa Ieyasu was a faithful believer of Marishiten, so there are many statues of this goddess in Rinzai-ji Temple.

徳川家康は摩利支天を深く信仰していて、ですから臨済寺にはこの神様のたくさんの仏像があります。

The statues are housed in Zazendo, the hall for Zen meditation.

その仏像は坐禅堂、坐禅をする広間に収められています。

These Buddhist statues used to be in one of the shrines in Shizuoka Sengen Shrine.

これらの仏像は以前、静岡浅間神社内にある一つの社にありました。

In the Meiji Period, the statues were transferred to Rinzai-ji Temple to protect them from the government's anti-Buddhism policy.

明治時代、政府の反仏教政策（廃仏毀釈）から守るため、これらの仏像は臨済寺に移されました。

The entrance gate of Rinzai-ji Temple was built in1882 (the 15th year of the Meiji period) and two giant statues were moved there from Shizuoka Sengen Shrine.

臨済寺の山門は1882（明治15）年に建てられ、2つの巨大な像は静岡浅間神社からそこに移されました。

When I visited the temple, I and many visitors were impressed by these statues and the temple's cultural properties.

臨済寺を訪れた時、自分も大勢の皆さんも仏像、そしてお寺が持っている数々の文化的財産を見て大変印象深く感じました。
